Ubuntu setup fails while trying to install grub

I actually found the setting to turn on legacy mode , thank you.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my laptop because windows runs like crap on it. I can't seem to get past the bootloader install though and it crashes the installer.

Smart reports the drive as ok and I am not dual booting

What's your installation medium? Disc? Flash drive?

Have you checked the installer for defect?

What did you use to create the installer?

I'm using a flash drive, I have just checked it for defects, none found. I used Etcher to flash it

That's the easier option, it's actually possible to install Ubuntu without legacy mode. It's just trickier, glad you've solved your problem though.
