The YouTube app on Android is getting a new feature today: a Google Chrome-esque Incognito mode that will let users browse videos on the mobile app without worrying about their watch and search history. The new mode is available in the Account section of the app, where a toggle to “Turn on Incognito mode” should appear once the update rolls out. When in Incognito mode, the app will show a bar at the bottom of the screen to remind users of that fact. It will also replace your account icon with Google’s Incognito mode detective instead. Just like with Chrome, all watch and search activity while using Incognito mode is cleared when you exit. (The mode also deactivates after a period of inactivity.) Google still cautions that “your activity might still be visible to your employer, school, or internet service provider.”

 

 

It also states later in the article that only home and trending for your country will be available because your sub box and library are based off of your account.

Only home and trending huh.. So you won't be able to use the search function? What on earth could home and trending offer that warrants incognito mode?

no you can search I meant you can't access the sub box and library the search box doesn't need those things, sorry for the confusion.

Oh I re-read the article and was about to edit my comment with a "nvm" because it clearly talks about searches not beeing tracked. 

 

Still not sure what the usecase for this mode really is.. But I never go outside my techtuber sublist anyway

Yea only android doesn't have it seems odd since google owns YouTube. I would have thought android would have gotten it before iOS

I think the iOS version already has that feature aside from the fact that dark theme came to iOS first before Android.

I have both the latest iOS and Android and I can confirm that, even though iOS has a dark mode, Google's own Android still hasn't ! 9_9:)

The app is already so broken on my phone that my history has been empty since I got the damn thing. It has been updated and reset plenty.

 

I'm tired of it recommending videos I've already watched multiple times.

 

Google, fix the main part first please...

And where on android do you go to do this? There's certainly no option on my google pixel xl.

At first glance it makes no sense to have incognito mode on YouTube unless you're embarrassed by your viewing history.

 

However, how many times have we clicked on some stupid video once and you get a never-ending flood of recommendations for stuff you don't want to watch. Or you look up a tutorial for a particular thing you need to fix in your house and now YouTube expects you to renovate your entire house. It's things like this it's supposed to alleviate.

 

Unfortunately it's a bit out of the way so you'd have to have some foresight when browsing or even clicking YouTube links posted elsewhere because either way it'll end up in your history.

Youtube has been recommending me stuff recently (last few months), apparently based on my viewing history. The stuff it's suggesting is utter shite and I will never watch. Despite me repeatedly (on hundreds of videos) telling it to piss off. Apparently me watching a video of someone building a computer, or about any type of tech, not even watching a gaming stream means I really want to have a suggested feed made up entirely of people playing fortnite or pubg.

Yup, and thats why I tend to no longer even look at the suggested feed, as even before then, it would offer suggestions multiple times from my subs that I had already watched, reminded it I had watched them, then a week or two later, some (not all) show up there again.
