Is £515 for an AMD 1950X a good deal?

I’ve recieved an offer on eBay for a brand new AMD 1950X for £515. Is this a good deal?

also are there many new X399 boards to come out soon (looking at ASUS specifically) or should I pick from the current crop as they are now  lower in price

Well. I’ve done the calculations and it in fact costs the same (minus the CPU) to move to X399 when compared to the need to buy a new X99 mobo 

also, I’m studying computer science AND taking an MCSA SQL Server 2016 DB Admin course which requires 3 virtual machines to be run, one each with a database

What's your budget for the rest of everything though? Motherboard/possible new case if it's not already E-ATX

It’s just mobo which I mentioned earlier, I will carry everything else across

A new 1950X looks to be 650

 

If you want like the best board get the zenith extreme. Otherwise aside from the cheapest ones they're all fine.

I went with the Micro ATX ASrock board so I could have a bit smaller case. Board has been fine.

And you only have 8GBs of DDR4? As fast dual channel really helps performance, not sure how much quad channel matters.
