Is Apple's behavior ILLEGAL?? - iMac Pro Repair Pt. 2

Ah, that makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

Also isn't surprising for me from my experience with cars. Car part costs are much higher post-sale than when you buy the car-- someone a few years ago went through the bmw 3 series catalog and figured out that if you buy all the parts new, and built your own car with 0 labor cost, you'd spend quite a bit more than buying the exact same car from the dealer.

Thing is, if you buy 3 new cars for parts, you theoretically can. No one stops you. So markets exist for that. Here, everything is DRMed up the wall.

Apples motto is like Red's, fucking your wallet isn't just our job, it's our passion.

Their blatant lack of quality testing and assurance on their butterfly keyboards is just nonsense, and trying to get the consumer to cough up 700$ or more for a fix is total shit.

I like their designs, its something that appeals to me, but the hardware and the costs are the factors that drive me away. I have had 3 times more problems with my MacBook than I have had with my ghetto built PC.

IDK about all of the right to repair stuff, but I assume now that the broken warranty void if removed sticker on the momo is now just a bit of paper and not a fist up the arse? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I assume that apple will have found their way around this, seeing as they have lobbyists who have Tim cooks arm so far inside them that they're just a puppet in power.

I myself like the designs as well that Apple offers. It's sleek and what not but as you also have said, the costs of such an device keeps me away as well. Though, there are used/refurbished models out there that you can get for quite 'cheap' in a few official stores I believe or just get them from eBay. However, those models are either 'outdated' to some people, or have a few used markings or whatever on the computer itself which can be downside for some. Speaking of which, I have bought myself a old Macbook that was from late 2009. It still holds up pretty well and upgradeability is well available for that model. You can easily swap out the hard drive, the battery and of course the RAM.

For those that still think after so many years that Apple will lower down their prices, forget it. It's just implausable to even think of. It'll just increase as usual. If you want to use their software alone aside from the portability and their design and what not in general, then try to install MacOS on your non-Apple computer. (in a hobby, not professionally cuz that could cause trouble at the end). I know it's a much told suggestion, but at the end, it's a fun project (depending on how you see it that is).

I used to work for Staples, I know for a fact that they are Apple certified and can order any components you would need. (I used to fix those in the store) Tho the cost might get high due to component availability. Also note that you should not be in a hurry because the suppliers aren't. On the other hand, they would be able to get you the parts you need. Also I want to point out that even as a reseller you need Apple certification. And they request for each and every employee in the Technology department. Not to mentioned that they want you to promote Apple products over anything else no matter your needs. Selling and fixing apple products sucks for any business. But if they want to be able to sell iPads, well they do not really have a choice.

I personally think that those practices should be considered illegal and unfair competition.

If I ding my car door, I shouldn't be forced into replacing the entire exterior of my car and to purchase only Ford products.  Likewise, the car mechanic shouldn't turn to me and say, "You need to buy a new Ford car, because repairing the ding in your door would cost us too much, as Ford makes us pay out the wing-wang for parts we don't use."

The only Apple products I've ever owned were iPods, and when an Apple store with "geniuses" refused to repair them outright because they were no longer under warranty (despite only needing new batteries), I realized that the business model Apple pursues is summarized thusly: "Skin the sheep, and if it manages to survive and grow some more wool, skin it again."

This is really shitty business practices. I remember how badly I wanted Macbook Air... until I found out I could kill the screen with barerly a knock.

Hi Linus!

Greetings from Costa Rica, Thank you for your amazing content, I don´t have specific suggestions on the I mac repair, but I would love to see a next video in which you build a “replacement” pc with similar specs (specially  referring to the monitor), with far better costumer support, and similar cost.

I think it would be a fun, instructive, and a monetizable video… my best wishes for you and your team!
