FWIW Apple allows "Stocking Orders" for common items like RAM and screws or whatever. But a stocking order has low priority and will be bumped if a repair order comes in and stock is needed. Also the AASP must pay full price, not exchange price for any stocking orders. If you charge the exchange rate to the customer, then apple will send a replacement Stocking part and the store pays full price for that because reasons... And if you order stocking parts for something weird like a 2012 Retina display and never use it, you can send it back to Apple, but it affects so many of your metrics it's not even funny. Not to mention if you have a repair sit for say 6 hours before your technician is scheduled to work it can cause Apple Phone support to stop recommending your store to customers calling for hardware repairs.

 

As far as guaranteeing the repair, that's easy to do. When doing a repair you always have to replace anything with visible damage or failing diagnostics or you refuse the repair. When the repair is done, you boot to a special netboot server that runs integrated tests on all components and burn-in tests then sends the results back to Apple. Then if the unit comes back in the next 30 days for any issue your store's metric takes a huge hit.

Apple is a terrible company. Period. I would never buy one on purpose, only be given on for work, and even then I'd complain about it to the point of getting a dual boot or windows machine.

Apple's service/repair structure is darn right destructive in every sense of the word, how can a company work like this?

Didn't the FTC announce last month that void if removed stickers are illegal? How can apple still deny to replace the logic board because of the sticker?

The lesson learned here is that you shouldn't let idiot employees fuck with expensive hardware unless you're prepared to pay an idiot tax when the manufacturer doesn't bail you out.

Could look at it in 2 scenarios:

Scenario 1:

From our perspective, they'd be paying exchange price for all the parts because we could return them. We never ran into the issue about the stickers because no one ever messed with them. The ~$3400 + labor would have been about right. Our shop would have charged $65/hr, and that's about a 2-3 hour repair for everything, so coming in at ~$3600 + tax. 

 

Scenario 2:

If we could have returned the MLB under warranty and they only paid for the screen, probably under ~$1600, but I don't have the pricing in front of me to say exactly. If MLB was replaced and PSU needed to be as well, we'd have tried to get that under warranty as well.

Apples repair service structure is a very bad and very predatory, especially against the Authorized service providers, BUT IT IS NOT ILLEGAL. You guys decided to take it apart and you broke the warranty stickers and so apple or any of their service providers are not liable to help fix your iMac Pro. Apple is a private company and can refuse any work that they might get upon their desk. This title is complete and utter clickbait making a sensational clam to sell ads that would probably make you enough money to buy another iMac Pro. If I see another video of you ranting away because of your $5,000 computer it will tell me that you and LTT have gone from a trusted tech reviewer to a man who makes unsupported claims to make money. If you want to fix it so badly go buy a 5K iMac Screen.

Yes, they spent so many hours trying to fix their problem, hundreds of people were pitching in in the thread here and under the YT video.

It's 'illegal' in the sense they sue innocent third party repair companies for no reason at all. This is the 'illegal' part, this is the destructive part of the problem.

Every time i'm talking to someone about how bad apple is. They hit me with the, OH YOUR JUST TOO POOR TO BUY A MAC, or the ANDROID IS TRASH GET AN IPHONE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. But they don't seem to understand that apple is a terrible company. I can look past their overpriced products (like I do with Razer) but the way in which apple operates as a company is appalling. They don't spend their endless amounts of cash on R and D. They just take already devolved tech, slap an apple logo on it and call it a day. Companies like google are trying to push technology forward. google has been working on google duplex (their AI smart assistant that can book appointments for you). Whats apple doing? Locking down phones so that the FBI cant break into them to stop terrorists. Apple is LITERALLY EVIL. And sure, you might really care about privacy and that's okay. If you truly care about privacy you would get a blackberry running...you guessed it! Android! I honestly hope that people stop buying apple products and realize that there is a whole other side of the tech market, the better side.

If there's something i learned from the fanboys in this forum: Unless Louis secretly has a an apple certification, he won't be able to make it work. It's physically impossible.

I'm sure they are doing this to assure the highest payout per share more than anything else...

 

Apple seems to be willing to sell stuff to their customers but not willing to repair it at reasonable prices if at all. I'm sure they'll find a way around the FTC too...
