I thought AA retired all their MD based planes?
Interesting

Also, I wished Southwest would have a 737MAX fly from MSP to ATL

AA still has a few MD-80s left. I know someone who flies AA twice a week (normally) and from KIAD/KBWI to KDFW you are almost 100% getting a MD-80 (another thing I want to fly before retirement, even though I used to be exited for 738s instead.) When I visit Texas and go on AA, I'm going to try to go via KIAD/KBWI.

Also, the WN MAX is very nice. I like the Heart interior much better than even the Evolve interior and the LEAPs are very quiet. When I returned on an AA 738, I had forgot how loud the CFM56s were.

ah yeah, that's something @Dan Castellaneta would love to do with Delta before their MD-80s/MD-90s go bye bye. Fortunately they have around 58% (91/156) of all 717s ever made. Bit of a shame KLM was the last one to fly Passenger/Commercial MD-11s retiring their last MD-11 in 2014. Though I think it'd be super awesome to fly on a Lufthansa 747-8, maybe A380 too. Though maybe a Qantas A380 would be how we experience that air-frame.

We'd probably experience the 787 on JAL or ANA, maybe A350 on Delta...

As I've said before I've never actually flown lol

Yeah frankly I sorta wished the LEAP engines weren't the only choice for airlines going with the 737max. I understand it's easier and historically, that is to say since the 1980s at the beginning of the 737's more modern history. Have only ever used CFM engines. I wished Airlines had the choice of getting the Pratt and Whitney PW1000G on the 737max.

It's super quiet, very fuel efficient. More so than the leap I believe. Though I'm aware that there have been some things Pratt and Whitney has had to do to modify the whole engine as Geared Turbo Fan engines are a rather new sort of thing and unusual wear and tear on some parts has happened, though I'm super glad it seems Delta is still sticking to the PW1000Gs on their A321neos.

On another note, what are some of your favorite private jets. Any type though preferably not based off a commercial jet (Lineage 1000 from Embraer and likely certain Bombardier are exempt)

My favorite small jet is probably the HondaJet

Larger, I guess the current Bombardier Global 5000 to 8000 series is nice.

Challenger 350 and 550 also seem nice.

I hope WN dosen't sell the 717s they are leasing to Delta (88 I believe.) I would LOVE to see a 717 in WN colors. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen because, as you know, WN is a 737 only carrier.

Oh, I'd like to see Delta buy the 717s from WN.

The only reason WN bought AirTran was for their 737s and Delta wanted their 717s

Oh yeah certainly, it's about 3 million dollars cheaper than the Honda Jet, though in all honesty maybe if you had the income to maybe wait a bit longer and get a Honda Jet, you might be better off. Though of course maintenance and the Cirrus Vision only having a single engine vs the 2 on the Honda Jet.

First time seeing this thread. Don't know if my post is completely on topic, but I think It should be close enough to fit.

As a bit of an aviation nerd and somebody who's worked at a local airport, I've become a fan of the new canard jets (the P180, first image - not mine). They're pretty odd, but I've grown to like their efficiencies. I've worked at terminals, ATCs, and several hangers. I'll post images of some of the planes I've seen worked on, or built.

First spoiler - P180 (not my pic)

Second spoiler - Long-EZ, B25 and RV9, RV12 and Cessna Caravan, V-tail Doctor Killer (all my pics).

BREAKING NEWS:

A Lion Air flight with well over 150 passengers onboard (official count yet to be released) has crashed shortly after takeoff, just off the coast of Jakarta. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 (registration: PK-LQP). The aircraft was just recently delivered to Lion Air back in August of 2018. The first test flight for this airframe was on July 30th, 2018. This marks the first ever incident, hull loss, and fatality involving the 737 MAX Series.

Early radar data analysis by FlightRadar24 indicate that the aircraft was descending rapidly and at a high rate of speed upon impact.

A technical log obtained by the BBC from the plane's previous flight suggests that the airspeed reading on the captain's instrument was unreliable, and the altitude readings differed on the captain's and first officer's instruments.

"Identified that CAPT [captain's] instrument was unreliable and handover control to FO [first officer]," the log reads. "Continue NNC of Airspeed Unreliable and ALT disagree."

The crew decided to continue their flight and landed safely at Jakarta.

Could have it stalled? It certainly could've been the case based on the tracks. But it doesn't seem as simple as that.

UPDATE:

It has been reported that AOA (Angle of Attack) Sensor on board the ill-fated Lion Air 737 Max 8 was replaced fairly recently and problems still persisted after that repair. This comes around the same time that the FAA issued an Airworthiness Directive for the 737 Max 8 and Boeing themselves issued a Safety Bulletin on Tuesday to airlines warning that faulty readings from sensors could cause the aircraft to enter an unexpected steep dive.

Boeing Safety Bulletin: https://www.businessinsider.com/boeing-737-max-bulletin-sudden-dive-wont-impact-company-2018-11

FAA Airworthiness Directive: https://www.businessinsider.com/faa-order-pilot-procedure-change-for-boeing-737-max-after-lion-air-2018-11

This whole story reminds me of XL Airways flight 888 where the pilots were performing some testing on a lease returned aircraft. While the aircraft was being prepped for return to the leaser, it was unproperly washed and water ended up being logged deep inside the AOA sensors. When the aircraft was in the air, the sensors froze giving the flight computers bad data. The pilots just so happened to be doing some stall tests which led to the perfect storm. The flight computer was confused with the angle the aircraft was flying in as the AOA sensor was reporting level flight as it was frozen solid, while other systems reported extreme nose up pitch. As a result, the flight system went to manual mode, meaning the trim on the horizontal stabilizer now had to be operated manually. The crew either didn't understand or pick up this warning and were unable to save the aircraft from the dive as trim was never adjusted.
