Whoosh - The Airplane and Airline Thread

Something I noticed is the MD-90 is the first McDonnell Douglas jet to be retired.

The DC-8 isn't retired yet. The DC-9 isn't. The DC-10, MD-11, MD-80 and, if you want to count it, Boeing 717 aren't. Just the MD-90.

That's fascinating! If I were to be super pedantic, the C-9 military variant of the DC 9 is entirely retired. But, that's as close as you can get to a prior retirement. Even all the McDonnell Douglas fighters still see some limited use.

Since the C-9 was just a variant I don't really count it tbh lol

How Airbus should thank Boeing for giving them a prime opportunity to help Bombardier sell a really good plane and eventually taking the whole program over, and just about at a decade after they ended 717 production

What would you guys think if a US airline operated an Irkut MC-21 with PW1000G engines?

the A320 and A321 is closest in size to the MC-21 lol

but I think I could agree. InterJet in Mexico operates the Sukhoi SJ100 although they had to ground a lot of their fleet to be used as spares to support far fewer aircraft because there wasn't very good after sales support from the company in Russia.

One thing I'll be very interested in is seeing the Mistubishi *SpaceJet* I kinda think that's a funny name but whatever enter in the US, I believe there is a US airline ordering it lol

Guess I shouldn't be surprised when I encountered 47kts of wind at 2000ft today 😂

Cirrus? Where did  you get cirrus from? Do you mean the cirrus clouds? :P

if I'm not mistaken that wing is a Cirrus wing lol

huh so in theory an A220 could do practically everything I'd want it to do for the airline I envisioned and basically entirely scrap the whole hub and spoke thing because it can fly to most places in the US and even Europe and even to the Caribbeans I guess its range sort of got lost on me other than on a delivery flight it was possible for Air Baltic to fly directly to Riga from Mirabel. From say Albany or Hartford or Providence or Baltimore/DC you could get to the bigger cities in Europe like London, Paris, Amsterdam (wouldn't be able to really get to Germany because Amsterdam might be pushing the range a little). You can get to Hawaii from Los Angeles with an A220. Not sure how popular that would be but imagine for less than a mainline airline flying from a more local airport if you live in a medium size city with a big enough airport going to one of those major travel destinations?

The only question:

How comfortable would flights that long be on an A220?

well the seats are wider so maybe not that bad.
leg room sounds like it's okay so probably not that bad?
