Whoosh - The Airplane and Airline Thread

I meant that I think the A321 would stick around longer (and AA likes to use them on the route I uasually fly), making me more interested in flying the planes that have their days numbered.

Weird to think that there are some A321s that are as old as some MD-80s/90s.

Hopefully the 757 MAX thing comes to fruition, I really don't want the 757s to leave the skys.

ohhh lol
I had just woken up so must've misread it lol

Also similar with the planes that have numbered days left

a 757 re-engine would be interesting. Even though they'd have to re-create all the tooling I think it probably wouldn't be that hard I mean the 767 and 757 were co-developed after all.

Even if the tooling needs to be recreated, they have most the design ready, so it's still not a huge endeavor and would allow them to offer something before NMA is released.

Apparently there are also some plans (I've heard that they were scrapped but also that they are still thinking about going through) for a 767 MAX.

What would be the point of that???

no idea honestly, I guess to be a smaller and cheaper and more readily available alternative to the 787?

Back in the day when AA mostly used MD-80s on their DCA/BWI-DFW route, I saw the 737 as some shiny and new advanced aircraft because AA only flew the -800 at the time, plus I was young.

Cue to me flying on a US Airways 737-400 and being confused when my dad told me it was about as old as the AA MD-80s.

Once I started flying WN more frequently I got used to the Classics lol, though I had realized how old the 737 is before that.

yeah lol
it's funny the MD-80 family stems from the same time frame as the 737s stem from lol

Just the 737s got another lease on life...

that did not go well.

yep

the 737 got a few leases on life. One too many frankly.

I guess the Classic and NG use the same line of engines so a lot of the changes were mostly under the hood figuratively and cockpit changes as well as longer

Thing is, Boeing knew the NG was pushing it, they should have just cut their losses and put a lot of focus on a new design that they could even make scalable to a 757 replacement.

yep I think the NG should've been the end of the 737 family and a scalable 797 that would've been co-developed with the 787 as a combo of a FSA and NMA option that could seat as few as like 130 and as many as about 200 or so passengers and fly as far as 3,000-4,000nmi and maybe on a ER version get up to around 5,000-6,000nmi
I believe the 787 gets around 7,000-8,000nmi  but a narrow body 787 would be cool

Boeing lost all the guidance when management moved away from the factory

I'd have to ask my family member who use to work their what their thoughts are on some of the latest aircraft designs

Offer both the CFM Leap and PW1000G and maybe something that provided more thrust to like for the higher capacity 757 replacement.

797-200 could be like a 737-700 replacement
797-300 would be like a 737-800 replacement
797-400 would be a 737-900 replacement (797-400ER would replace the 737-900ER)
797-500 would be your 757-200 replacement it'd have the same undercarriage arrangement the 757 had (and maybe an ER designation for like that extended range I was mentioning)

797-600 would be like a 757-300 replacement maybe? Not sure if there's be demand for the bigger 757.

They also could drop the 00 at the end if they wanted to lol

They could use a scaled down GE NX for non-ER models and the full version for ER models (I think there should be more ERs).

I'd like to see a -900 that's kinda like what a 757-400 would have been lol

I changed out numbers but maybe they could go super long lol
a -700 that would've been what a 757-400 could've been.

Maybe a scaled down GEnx for the 757 replacements? I think that'd be a lot for the 737 side of the FSA/NMA merger

Because I think Boeing really could adapt their future plane to clap back at Airbus if Airbus isn't planning an A320 replacement.
Apparently Airbus has a minor balance issue that Boeing has with the new engines so I doubt Airbus really wants to get into the augmentation business with another future re-engine of the A320 and instead go for a clean sheet design based off the A350 and A220 (even though it's not their design I could see them incorporating some of its elements)

They also should figure out an A330 replacement instead of the neo that's wider and bigger windows

@Kaloob also I'd like to see the traditional shades return for the 797 but if an airline wants the shadeless windows they can still option it in, same for the HUD. But I kinda think that the traditional window shades are fine, but the shadeless windows are cool too lol

hm to do something I wanna do towards the end of summer before I get to go back to my normal job working on school busses with students I'd be looking at $1,400 to be with my bf for as long as I'd want to be down there since the 2020 Minnesota State Fair is cancelled due to la yorona.

757 would be the only plane that gets me to and from Atlanta lol would've been sweet to get some 737 or A321 in there some where but frankly don't give a damn since the 757 will be leaving far sooner than the 737 or A321 would be for Delta lol

and of course the venerable 717 from Atlanta to Huntsville and back 🙏

Unrelated to United Airlines because UA still has all their 787s and the 787 is too new to have ever been painted in this color.
