Are thin client workstations an option for connecting to the individual VMs?  I would love to see that setup and I am very interested in the current available software and limitations of such a system.

AMD didn't feel like sending in EPYC? Very sad.

 

They could have at least sent in some of the Radeon SSGs, they were built for 8k editing after all.

Doesn't EPYC have more PCI-e lanes than Xeon stuff right now? Think it was 128 per EPYC CPU?

1. It's not a  hard-core Case Labs build without a PEDESTAL underneath and some CASTERS.

2. Here's a tip from an actual Case Labs owner - you move those big ass cases around by first TAKING OFF all the top/front/side panels thereby saving a few pounds and making it easier to grip and hold.

3. I have a S8+pedestal setup that is stuffed to the limit with four graphics cards, twelve drives, 30 fans and five 80mm thick radiators. The entire system weighs more than my GF, yet I can still pick it up and move it.

4. The Magnum TX10 is bigger and will hold two of those motherboards.

Why are you not using an epyc chip, you would have a lot less PCIE issues? and you would get a few more cores, 10 cores 20 threads per editor.

I watched the prologue... Wanting to yell at Linus to grab a pocket knife or a box cutter the entire time, and then I paused soon to resume the video, then I pondered "isn't it cheaper and more effective to just build 8 individual systems than build one ultra powerful one?"

not that much, looking at about 70-100K for 6 people and nice workstations for this are 10-15K but have the added benefit of redundancy.

I mean its more than just the cost of hardware. Much less space being taken up and the possibility of easier IT work.

I don't have that specific case, but here an ITX sitting in a TX10 monster to give you an idea.

Note: not a finish build, still need more parts.

If these are meant to be video editing workstations then Epyc is probably not a good idea (at the moment) - Premier has issues with the Zen architecture IIRC (Hardwarecanucks did a video about having to switch back to Intel from a Ryzen system because it was too unreliable). Once Adobe gets round to realising that there a second x86 platofrm that's worth coding for then the situation will change but until then...
