What are the chances in this?

A few years ago I was playing cs with a couple mates and I checked out the enemy team's profiles. One of them claimed to be from the same town I live in, which has about 90,000 people (who most of are elderly lol). I asked him and ofc he said yes but I don't have my real town on my profile so its not like he could fake it as I joined (why would he anyway?).

 

Now just a few days ago I was playing R6S and I met a fellow Brit (whos a year younger than me) which are a rare thing it seems on siege, who lives only about 20 miles from me, but to make it even weirder, he is going to the same college as me starting in September and is going to be on the course I did this year.

 

Now just about 20 minutes ago I was playing RL with my cousin on competitive. We lost and started to jokingly shit talk the other team, who jokingly shit talked back. One of them added me and I noticed we had a couple friends in common. I asked him how he knew them and he told me he is room mates with one of the guys' brother, who we have in common. He sent me his Facebook and we have a few mutual friends.

 

How fucking weird is this?

 

What are the chances of meeting people from the same town this small and having similar interests, let alone just a few days apart. I'm weirded out by this. Does steam match making search based on location or something? The odds of this must be 1 to the millions.

Yeah it's based on location not really that weird. I played a game with a dude and met him again almost 5 years later

In Matchmaking a server with a lower ping is preferred so you almost always get a server with a close location.

Someone I met on Steam I found out went to the same high school as me. I told him I would meet him at a location, and I walked past to see if someone that looked like the pic he sent me was there, and sure enough there he was. I just walked past like I didn't know him and decided to not meet up with him because he was sending sexual messages to me. I just made fun of him for being overweight and soon enough he blocked me. He was Global Elite in CS:GO, but only because he cheated. He even uploaded screenshots with the ESP still on. He's VAC and game banned on his main account now.

What are the chances of meeting people from the same town this small and having similar interests, let alone just a few days apart. I'm weirded out by this. Does steam match making search based on location or something? The odds of this must be 1 to the millions.

Was playing a mobile game and the random guy in multiplayer happened to have graduated from the same high school as me.
