Graphics Upgrade.

So I'm currently running a 6970 2gb and I'm using it for an eyefinity portrait setup.I'm really not getting enough FPS even on the LOWEST settings on crysis 3(around 30 max), and even on Blops 1 i can only get 50 FPS max with a min of 30.

So my question is, do i buy another 6970 to crossfire?

Or is this a bad idea- i been reading about the whole "FRAPS being wrong thing", and got a bit scared on the livestream when they said you can lose up to 50% of your power with crossfire. I've also heard that Radeon Pro fixes this, using Dynamic V-sync...but does it really work? Buying another 6970 is my cheapest option, I think, because if I need to my motherboard can do quad crossfire, so i can buy more GPUs when I need more power.

Not a fan of dual GPU set-ups especially If your limited by V-RAM. I'd go for a 7970Ghz; 3GB and decent amount of horsepower compared to close rivals.

at that point, I'd probably get another 6970.

I don't think a 7970 will be enough of a upgrade for eyefinity.

Crysis 3 brings both a single GTX680 and a HD7970 to their knees at max setting even @1080P. So, it's little wonder that your single HD6970 struggles at EF res. Two HD6970, like a single HD6990, is more powerful than a single HD7970, so snag another......but only if you can get it cheap. I already have a HD6990 in my 3rd rig, but when I saw someone at a local tech forum selling an MSI HD6970 Lightning (with a year and a half warranty left) for about 160USD, I figured why not?! I now have it installed with my 3rd rig doing TriFire.

If you can sell that HD6970 for a decent price and get a HD7970 (comes with two AAA games), then this would be the better route in that you can prolly snag a 2nd HD7970 at a lower price in the future. Before getting my 3rd HD7970, I was playing BF3 at Ultra + 4xMSAA @5760x1200 with dual HD7970's, it was relatively smooth. Bear in mind that this was pre-CAT12.11 Beta driver which boosted performance by a fair bit. Now, with TriFire HD7970, I tried BF3 at max setting @5760x1200, the 'Going Hunting' level, I don't see my framerate dipping below 60fps with highs of >100fps. A single HD7970 Ghz Ed would prolly get you about 30+fps and above, but if you tone down AA, then it should be sufficient for smooth gameplay......don't quote me, just my opinion and not based on any benchmark whatsoever.

2 6970's in theory are faster than a 7970. I use 2 and in most things they run 5760x1080 fine at between medium and max setting depending on the game. Crossfire drivers have come a long way.

The whole frames not being fully rendered thing will be fixed.

it seems to be newer games being affected more so than a bit older ones.

I would go with another 6970.

Depending on the cost of a new 6970 and what you can get for your current card I could advise you to go either way.

Crossfire is amazing in new games in fact some times you can add more than 100% performance by adding another card idk about 6970 but 7770s are the budget crossfire king right now up to 130% increase.

Yeah, really can't seem to get a 6970 for less than 200 euro (I got my original for 150 on stock clearance from pixmania) so I might just try and sell my 6970 and get a newer card...but that makes things a lot more expensive with not enough extra power...

I looked on Newegg...they don't seem to have any 6970s(by anyone)

Don't think crossfire 7770s would be enough for Eyefinity...

You don't need extra power a highly overclocked 7970 still consumes less power than the 6970.

By power I meant FPS or how good the card is , not how many watts it consumes!

A highly overclocked 7970, is as fast as a 6990, so I would imagine that you should get at least 80% more performance.

I skipped all the posts, but I would sell the card you have and get a 680. or a 7970 if you still want eyefinity.
