How do they compress movies but not sacrifice quality?

I've been wondering, I know about handbrake and all of that but how are big films compressed but still in high quality?

It does lose quality, you just get rid of the quailty people don't notice. You also do things like only show changes between keyframes, not the full frame.

Some compression algorithms are very efficient like x264 and x265.  There is going to be some quality loss but its very minimal, much worth the trade off as opposed to ginormous raw files
