Chrome download speed drops to 0B/s (stops)

So I've got a new router today and a new SSD to which I migrated the OS to.. Absolutely everything is working fine..

The internet is working just fine on all devices.. it is like nothing changed.. but I am having one very irritating problem.. Google Chrome won't download files.. the download starts of normally.. it downloads a few megabytes and then just drops to 0 B/s.. i ended up downloading the file though my smartphone over Wifi soI don't think the new router is the problem or maybe it could be a wired-only issue.. I've disabled all firewalls (both router and Windows), I've reinstalled Google Chrome and I've tried downloading to file to other drives in case the SSD was the problem somehow..

 

Any ideas what is causing this?

 

EDIT: I've also tried downloading in Internet Explorer and it also freezes after some time.. wtf is going on?

could try a different version of google chrome.

Edit: could also try reinstalling the LAN drivers for the motherboard.

Turns out it is not related to Chrome.. Internet Explorer does the same thing.

check your lan settings. go to control panel > network and internet > internet options > connections > Lan settings > tick automatic detection, apply, reboot.

The settings were like that already..

Ethernet..

Torrents downloads are working just fine at max speed..

I've also tried changing DNS and set a static local IP address.

Didn't help..

Your download may be being stopped by Chromes Security settings.  Have you tried disabling them within Chrome?

I've disabled that a long time ago.. and it is still disabled... also as I said this is not a Chrome problem.. internet explorer wont download files either...

I'm gonna try another computer that is connected via Ethernet

It does not identify any problems.

 

I've just tested another PC connected VIA Ethernet and it actually got much further than my PC, but stopped at around 90%...

 

Wifi on my smartphone works perfectly...

 

So it means it is an Ethernet issue??

I just fixed it by simply connecting to another port on the router.. I can't believe nothing else worked... but simply reconnecting it did.. WOW troubleshooting is so retarded sometimes...

It is happening again.. internet is literally unusable like this.. whenever I try to download a file the download just stops after a few seconds.. "Failed - Network error" .. reconnecting doesn't help anymore.. how do I fix this????

 

NEW OBSERVATION: I can resume the download.. It downloads another few megabytes and then I get the error again.. I just have to keep resuming the download until the download is finished.

Just buy a new good router. Or restart / update current one. If you have router from your ISP, then buy your own and swap. Or, if it's impossible, at least change ISP's router to bridge mode and use your own router for creating home network. Reinstalling windows is pointless until you don't check your internet connection with some other system (for example - bootable usb with ubuntu).

I don't think my ISP supports 3rd party routers.. They set it up so only the ones they provide work..

Do you have at least access to your router configuration? If there is bridge mode somewhere - you can use your own router then without their permission (of course do not set bridge mode until you have your own router).

And don't think about it - ask them for all that stuff. It will has more sense than asking us here.

Yes, I have access to admin account.. pretty useless since I don't have a router.. how is a bridge mode going to help if the router is the problem.. how will a new router bridged with the old one gonna help?

Bridge mode makes your router some kind of "invisible" - it just passes all internet into LAN1 port and that's all, it makes no other operations and all functions are basically disabled. Then you can make your internal network using your own, better router. If you want to, of course.

one thing I'd love if someone explained to me.. wtf is actually going on.. how is it possible that a router is preventing me from downloading files through web browsers when using wired connection.. while I can download torrents, browse the internet, download games on steam, play online games, etc. I just cannot understand that...
