21:9 144hz VS 16:9 144hz wich is Better?

Hey everyone

Recently ive been looking to get a new display for gaming and ive found 2 choices take both look verry nice but im not sure wich one i should get One of them is an Ultrawide by Lg (The: LG34UC98G-B) and the other is A WQHD Display by Asus (The: ROG Swift PG278QR)

They both Provide G-sync and a 144hz refresh rate. the only real differences between them are the resolutions , Response time And Viewing angles aswell as the size so Im really not sure wich one i should get. i do quite a bit of competitive gaming (mostly first person shooters) so at first i thought the Asus display would be better since all games support 16:9 and not al of them support 21:9 but i also play quite a few third person games like Pubg and the lg would be a better choice for those type of games because of the viewing angles aswell as the increased fov. Cleary i cant decide wich one to choose so id like to get some feedback from you guys!

Ultra wide can be a tough sell. Especially if you are using any kind of multi monitor set up. Also the price of the LG is something to consider. I would make my decision based off what other display's you plan to use.

Best of luck! :)

Actually I play cs:go on a 2560x1080p ultrawide at 1680x1050p stretched and it is perfect!

Seriously though ultrawides are the best soltution in the market for a single high end screen, specially the 3440x1440p ones, offering more real virtual space than 4k thanks to windows derpy scaling issues and so much more immersion I don't see why bother with 16:9 if you can afford the ultrawide.

Thanks for the feedback! , The prices are about 100$ apart so that wouldent be a problem but I completely agree with you on the multi monitor part. But for now i dont think im going to be doing a multi monitor setup.

The model number you gave me for the LG shows 60hz refresh rate, not 144hz.

Do you actually play competitively, or do you just like playing to win? They're not exactly the same thing ;)

I'd go with the ultrawide. You can play regular aspect games with black bars on the side.

yes the only reason not to get an ultrawide is for multiple display setups and the reason is only because you usually won't have enough space for everything on average desks, but even so I would still try to use an ultrawide as main, the experience is just something completely different.

well there isn’t a Ultrawide with a 144hz refresh rate and a Higher resolution thats within my budget since most of them are 1000$ (As far as i know) and above. plus its actually not that bad since less pixels mean its easier for the gpu to run at 144fps or higher

Have you ever used a 27" 1080p monitor?

I hate them. They give me headaches, and are super pixelated. Granted not everyone's eyes are the same, but that's my take on it.
