140mm PWM Case Fan suggestions!

Hey guys im looking to pick up 2x 140mm fans. I know I need them optimized for airflow and preferrably I would need them at $15 each or less.

I am a bit confused with PWM as my motherboard supports it but i do not know if the fan needs to aswell. My motherboard is the MSI b350 gaming plus, and my case is the Phanteks p400s tg.

If you guys have any suggestions on fans that would save my day!

PWM needs to be on your fan as well, so you have a wider range of speeds to choose than normal controlled fans

If your motherboard has PWM fan headers, I would go with fans that support PWM as well. It's not strictly necessary, but it will give you a wider range of RPMs (so your computer can be quieter when idle).

Are you able to plug non pwm fans into pwm headers and have them work

I am very happy with the Noctua iPPC NF-A14 2000rpm pwm fans, but I think they are $20 each

They're good but not pwm fans. You can find the pwm variant here: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wj8H99/be-quiet-pure-wings-2-140-612-cfm-140mm-fan-bl040

If you want better performance, TY-141 or NF-P14S' would be better.

Your motherboard fan headers support both pwm and dc. By default, the cpu / pump headers are set to pwm mode and sys fan headers to dc. Make sure to set the header to the correct mode for the fans being used.

Fan headers using pwm provide 12v which is 100% rpm unless the fan supports pwm which takes a pwm signal on the 4th pin and modulates the power received. For 2-3pin fans that don't support pwm, you can use variable voltage for control.
