I'm not 100% I like this move from a moral standpoint.

 

I would take it tho. Just sell the 1950x and buy a binned and delidded 8700k lol

I'd keep the 8086k as everyone seems to want to trade them in they would get even rarer xD

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

I question the wisdom of choosing the 8086K for this -Most people who get the 8700K get it for gaming, and it is in fact a better CPU for that overall. I wonder how many people will trade in and get frustrated that they're not pushing ludicrous framerates in a lot of games.

its just a bios related issue, sure on tr4 there are 4 channels of ram not connected but that shouldn't be a issue, from the research made by an overclocker a simple bios update adding the cpu would do the trick

Yeah I would trade it in ASAP. You know AMD should make a trade in program. Trade in your Intel CPU to get a discount on your next AMD product. I would do it

I would get the 1950x, sell it and then buy a 8700k + mobo and ram.

 

A 8086k is not worth much without the other components, and after all is just a 8700k. So pretty easy choice in that matter, free upgrade.

I mean couldn't I just ask for a check for 480 bucks? Since I would still sell the threadripper, buy the 8086 and call it a day anyway since there's literally no use for a 1950x if I was thinking of an 8086

Personally I would keep the 8086, I already have a good multi-core machine and it would be nice to have something that has good single core performance. Even if I didn't already have a multi-core machine, the 8086 is a nice cpu and if I wanted something that had more cores than are necessary for most people then I would buy used xeons (which is exactly what I did). Honestly there is no reason the average user needs more than 6 cores. The only incentive I would have to make the trade is if I was planning on selling the 1950x for the cash

Nope, because as I stated in a previous thread, the only reason I would spend money on the 8086K is for nostalgic reasons.  After it was no longer usable I would encase it in a coffee table along with my other retro and nostalgic pieces.   I have no use for an HEDT system.
