Gigabyte GA X58A-UD7 reserving 2GB for the system???

My motherboard has some wierd things going on, it's a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7 rev 1.0 i just flashed the bios to F9A (newest bios).

first of all, I have 6GB DDR3 memory installed @800 MHZ in the bios it does see all 3x2GB sticks, but only says it has 2/3 slots enable for a total of 4GB, when i get into windows it says 2 GB is hardware reserved.

When I install 12GB (2 matching kits) it has only 8GB enabled but it does see all 6x2GB sticks, and it says 4GB HW reserved. (all dimms are confirmed working)

so, whatever amout of RAM i install, it will always have 1/3 of the RAM missing. if someone has any suggestions please help me.

and yes i had the same issue with the older bios (F7) I got it in this way, and i want to figure out what the problem is with this board so i can start using it.

I could return it, but I'd rather fix this because it was an amazing deal... (100 euro including 12GB ram and shipping)

and this platform is from 2008 (board is from 2010 I think) even the highend GTX GPU's just had 2GB Vram. and yes indeed, X58 doesn't have IGPU.

That sounds like a Problem with the Motherboard/CPU/Socket.

I have something similar on my ASUS P6T, it just doesn't recognize the memory in the Middle slots.

Maybe its similar to the thing you have?

LGA Sockets are just not good for Desktop use, too fragile...

Another Thing you might want to look for is "Memory Remapping" or "Memory Hole Remapping", something like that.

That should be Enabled...

That you use a 64bit OS is a given, right?

the problem is not that they don't get recognized, they don't get used by the bios and are just there, if i remove them it gets worse

What happens when you use each Memory Channel?
Just try it...

Maybe its the Memory Hole Remapping thing that's off in the BIOS or maybe its a bad pin in the Socket...

okay, i'll try that.

also, i did the bios flash and it should've resetted itself, but it didn't so i am taking the CMOS battery out for an hour and see if that may have solved the problem

okay, your tip helped me a lot, Channel A was all good, i could put in 4GB without problems, but when i stuffed channel B full with 4GB it had 4GB reserved to the system, then i switched the 4GB from channel B to channel C and it had 8GB this led me to reïnstall the CPU and it all works now, so I'm happy right now and testing with overclocking the E5502 (i am already at 2,8Ghz right now)
