LOW POWER GPU HELP!

Recommended Posts

Posted · Original PosterOP

Hey!

Thanks for stopping by!

I am building a budget oriented PC (which is also my first pc).

My ‘base’ pc is just a Lenovo Thinkcentre M58P.

Stock it has an E8400, 2GB of RAM and oh help me some intel graphics on the motherboard.

My plans for this PC is to upgrade the CPU to a Xeon x3363, add 8GB of RAM totalling 10GB. AND some sort of low power GPU.

Heres where I need help. I’m trying to keep the build around $200 AUD.

Yes yes I have looked at the GT 1030. But. I was wondering if there is a GPU around or under $100 AUD that draws less then 75w (PCIe port max draw). There are plenty of good GPUS better then the 1030 that will cost me half of what the 1030 is but require additional power.

If anybody knows of a decent GPU around that price point or has any idea how to mod a proprietary PSU for a 6pin please reply!!!

Total cost of my build yet: $126

(Haven’t actually received anything yet >_<)

My Machines:

I know. I need to update this. And I will. Eventually.

all of the GT-series fall into that power category, even the GTX 750/1050/ti (single fans, without external power hookups).

looking for new, would be a regional issue, used, no problem.

i dont know why you started building at lenovo thinkcentre they are small as shit , I think a GT 1030 can enter it and is suitable for the case , p.s why you dont buy a case its not high price so you can buy with 20$

Thanks! And I don’t really care about my case. I have access to an angle grinder and other tools.

Sad to say that under 75W there isnt much choice :(. Id say either spend the extra on a GT 1030 or go last gen and get the GDDR5 version of the GT 730 (Believe me the card is decent :P). Prefferably an MSI version of the GDDR5 GT 730 at it will have the highest clock out of the 730's and can OC even farther (Stock is about 700 Mhz, The MSI Varient comes in at 900 Mhz stock). These can be found under $50 used :P

Main Laptop (Gearsy MK2): Ryzen 5 2500U, Vega 8 Mobile,12 GB 2400 Mhz DDR4, 250 GB 960 Evo NVME PCIE SSD  1 TB HDD, 15.6" 1080p IPS Touchscreen

HP Envy X360 15z (Ryzen)

PC (Gearsy): A6 3650, HD 6530D , 8 GB 1600 Mhz Kingston DDR3, Some Random Mobo Lol, EVGA 450W BT PSU, Stock Cooler, 128 GB Kingston SSD, 1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM

HP P7 1234 (Yes It's Actually Called That)

BF's Laptop (Blanny): Celeron N3060, HD 400, 4 GB DDR3, 32 GB EMMC, 768p TN Display

2016 HP Stream 11.6 (Reason Why Its Even Listed Is Because I Originally Owned It)

Switch Lite: Turquoise model, 64 GB Samsung Evo SD card

Also im happy to answer any Ryzen Mobile questions if anyone is interested!

I can get the 730 2GB MSI version for $64 AUD Delivered. Thanks for the the recommendation! Looks like I’ll be getting this unless I find a stupid cheap, reliable psu that can be paired with an alright GPU.

you can find cheap replacements for that PSU since 280 watts in 2018 will bottleneck your system pretty hard, here is the PSU tier list and generally considering your specs a tier 3-4 gpu is more than enough

The Asus GeForce GT 1030 2GB GDDR5 is passive cooled and is powered via the PCIE slot so you don't need a 6 pin.

AUD96 from umart or AUD106 from PCCG if you want better service.
