Building a Monitor

sobergreg

Hoping this is the best place to get information about this. I have a laptop I will not be using any more and the display is:

https://www.impactcomputers.com/81gyc.html

I would like to use this as a monitor so from what I understand I need a controller board. I need help finding the best board or any other method to turn this screen into a monitor. At this point I don't care if the touch screen doesn't work. I just want it to run at 3840 x 2160 resolution and 60hz. Please any information would be great.

I have the monitor in the laptop. I have yet to build my computer. Just trying to save money. The closest board I can find is:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-IR-TV-USB-VGA-controller-board-KIT-f-LP156WF6-SP-B1-B173HAN01-0-LTN173HL01/322737551073?epid=2237851886&hash=item4b24a836e1

To answer your question I could yes but that would be spending maybe $400+ on new monitor or $40 on board.

Too much pain/effort, likely wouldn't bother. If you're in the US it's like $80-100 for a basic 1080p IPS display.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

This would 4k at 60hz. So far I am willing to do the work and isn't much of a hassle. Need help finding the board that supports 3840 x 2160 resolution for LTN156FL01-D01.

Or better yet if you look at the connection that the monitor exports on, help point me in the right direction for a connector that goes to that. I have no idea what kind that is:

The connection I am referring to is in the picture at the bottom right. That is what connects to the system board on the laptop so if I could convert that over to anything that would be good as well.

You need to take the panel out of the monitor and look at the barcode on the back.

Then go to ebay or some other site and type "LTN156FL01-D01 Controller board" or whatever the code is.

Then buy one of the boards that has HDMI(needs to be 2.0) or DP input.
