Well, with some pin mods it's possible to boot 8th gen on first and second but I feel like it's beyond most peoples abilities

Yah, not worth the risk for 99% of people :)

What would actually happen if I tried to put my i7-8086k into my b250 board?

Im buying the CPU first and I was wondering if I could at least test if the CPU worked in the board, and whether it would damage anything.

I know they are incompatible but I want to at least test my CPU

It wouldn't work. Best case it won't post, worst case you kill it.
