Thunderbolt 2 display -> USB-C, no output?

eskalation

Hey,

i recently took the move from being fully invested in Apple, to buying a gamer pc to have in the living room, to now having moved it into my office with a good gamer monitor (Asus PG279). However, my previous monitor, an Apple Thunderbolt Display is not working with my pc. I bought the Thunderbolt 2 -> USB-C adapter, which works if you plug it into the usb-c port on a mac, however, if i plug it into the motherboard on my pc, i get no output.

My motherboard has an integrated graphics card, i also have a MSI Geforce 1070 Gaming X, which the 1070 is plugged into.

Mobo is a GA-Z170N-WIFI.

I'm wondering if the issue can be that the USB-C port is version 3.0, and maybe the thunderbolt 2- >USB-C dongle needs usb-c 3.1 to work?

Also, is it possible to get output from both the 1070 and the integrated graphics at the same time?

Anyone else had any success with attaching a thunderbolt monitor to a pc via. USB-C?
