NO vega 7nm for PC, Sony priorty for AMD..

What Sony buys will not be a flagship version of Navi.

Sony will never pay for a flagship GPU. They want to sell the console cheap. So they always get a midrange GPU which is not too massive and can be manufactured cheap with good yields. So if midrange Navi is going to be in that position for the PS5 then AMD should not have a problem creating a more high end GPU for the PC and workstation market without the low prices, power limits, thermal constraints which are required in the console market.

Honestly at this point I just think someone else entirely needs to get into the PC dedicated GPU business.  Way easier said then done mind you but I don't see any other way right now.

They say that the reason Vega disappointed is that most of the engineering staff was put onto Navi so that they don't disappoint Sony.

On the bright side this means that Navi architecture as a whole has got all the focus which is good for PC gamers as well.

Well, Nvidia isn't releasing anything new for a while. Now we see why. The rest of us only really know what comes out of the news and press releases... it wouldn't be too surprising that Nvidia have some 'inside' info on AMD and vice versa.

Not as a gamer card. That's from AMD themselves, look at the slides.

We haven't seen anything from AMD about bringing 7nm Vega to Consumer. It'd be a better Compute card anyway. Vega needs HBM2, which is really expensive. Navi will use GDDR5, 5X and 6, more than likely. Going up the SKU list.

AMD will survive just fine on the low/mid-end volume market, if anyone wants any more performance then it'll just have to be paid for. Thank fuck i just got a 1080Ti + X34P, they best last me a while!!! I have no problems dropping to Medium, looks great on current and probably future titles :)

Never in my life have I read so much BS.

The roadmap is pretty clear. 7nm Vega this year and only for ML/AI. Navi next year which is still GCN and will be the last. Brand new architecture 2020. Subject to change of course but AMD reiterated that roadmap last week.

Whether or not Navi was made with the PS5 in mind sounds like speculation and it remains to be seen that even if that was the case what impact it would have on the final product that will make its way into a graphics card. The chip making its way into the PS5 will still be very different from whatever makes its way into a card. With that being said the research going into one is still very valid for the other hence it doesn't necessarily mean that PC suffers. It's pretty clear that we won't see a big chip because GCN is still quite limited and it seems doubtful Navi will do much to help that due to the wasted effort it would be. With a potential dedication to a midrange chip with maximum perf/W/mm^2 seems to be the perfect solution for a PS5/Xbox/Polaris replacement.

The Polaris stuff is still competitive to nVidia's midrange, or will be when prices return to normal.

I'm sure that'll happen any day now, it's only been a couple of years since AMD cards have been not worth buying for gaming.

I'm sure someone will pull the numbers and correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm quite certain neither Nvidia, AMD or Intel give too big a shit about the PC gaming crowd as it's such a small market. AMD essentially pulling out of it for the next 2+ years proves this.

This is of course assuming this is all true, it is WCCF.

Nvidia most certainly care: gaming accounts for over half their revenue!

AMD isn't clueless, they know exactly how to beat Pascal. They're investing in the future right now. They can't afford to tell sony and microsoft to go fuck themselves, they've been the most loyal customers to AMD since the PS3 and Xbox 360 released. Giving them priority is the right move, for now and for the future.

PS3 didn't have AMD GPU, it had nVidia GPU, namely RSX.

Even if AMD would tell MS and Sony to go fuck themselves, MS and Sony simply cannot afford to go to nVidia so they have to. And Intel got shit integrated poop so no choice but AMD.

dont forget that the people making drivers arent the ones designing the hardware, and navi even if it isn't the full 64 cus will probably be at least as fast as a vega 64 because 7nm should clock much better and they focused on scalability according to an old slide, but my guess is that it will be very close to 64 cus
