Contrilling LED strip with WS2811b chips

TheNuzziNuzz

I would like some sort of way I can connect a few led strips for individule control without needing multiple controlers. I thought, Why not use the same chips that are used in individually addressable led strips? I would connect each RGB output to the Gate on a Mosfet and so I can use an alternative power source and connect the drain directly to non addressable LED strips.

This would also be really easy to expand as they would be daisy chainable.

Thoughts? Does this sound plausible? What suggestions do you have? Has anyone done this? What Addressable circuit should I use? (WS2812b, WS2811, etc?) Where could I buy just the circuits, would it make sense to build larger versions myself?

Computers r fun
