Best laptop for around £1000 for me? (List included)

I'm new here, so ... hello!

So, I've got my system up for sale at the moment as I've started travelling a lot (in a rock group) it's an i5 4670k, 8GB DDR3, GTX 1080 etc - A pretty neat system, runs everything I do at 2560x1080 60fps

I've narrowed it down to two brands of laptops for around the £1000 price point - Simply, which one would you recommend?

ASUS ROG Strix Hero - i5-7300HQ - 8GB DDR4 (2400 MHz) - GTX 1060 6GB - 1TB HDD 5400RPM - 128GB SSD M.2

-OR-

MSI GE62VR - i7-7700HQ - 16GB DDR4 (2400 MHz) - GTX 1060 3GB - 1TB HDD 7200 rpm - 128GB SSD M.2

If only the MSI had the full-fat GTX 1060, then (to me) the choice would be a lot easier!

What would you choose? I will be playing a wide range of games, from PUBG to Vanilla WoW 1.12.1 lol

I've linked, click on them :)

I think I'm secretly asking - Does the 3GB 1060 perform the same as the 6GB 1060?

If I were you i would look for a 8 gen i7 , its a huge step up. I know people playing at 60fps pubg with a 1050ti , so i think its better to pick a 8 gen intel and a 1050ti or spend more and pick a 8gen with a 1060.

I'm currently running an i5 4670k, so even the 7th gen is a massive step up for me.

Out of the two listed, what would you go for? Sticking with PC world, as they have a store down the road from me, so easy RMA if I have issues.

well it depends on your usage but rather a 7700hq and a 10603gb than a 7300hq , you should check reviews on gaming between those two

 My current i5 4670K

# of Cores 4
# of Threads 4
Processor Base Frequency 3.40 GHz
Max Turbo Frequency 3.80 GHz

Even the 7700hq is better.

It looks like the 7300hq is pretty much the same as my i5 4670k - which I am absolutely fine about

Although, my i5 4670k is under water and running 4.6ghz

I fully understand I will be loosing performance, but I'm not too bothered about maximum settings or THE latest or fastest.

If I can play the games I play at 60fps, on medium high settings - I'm a happy man.

For gaming, the performance difference isn't that much in most games, better GPU is better in gaming

Would you mind buying from other places? 3GB VRAM may bottleneck in some games.

So go for the Asus one?

That model has bad cooling. Avoid Asus FX and GL laptops if possible.

Similar pricing to PC world if I'm honest - maybe like £30 more expensive, but as it is up the road, it's easy for RMA etc.

I'll shift my current desktop first then see what my budget is, at the moment it looks like it'll be the ASUS one with the 6GB GTX 1060

I like the looks of it too, so that's a bonus! It may be seen as a 'budget' laptop, but spec wise looks bang on for what I want it to do.

Just a quick update - I'm swapping my rig (i5 4670k, 8GB DDR3 2133, GTX1080, EK A240G watercooled (GPU & CPU) AOC Ultrawaide monitor, Razer Anansi keyboard, Razer Deathadder mouse, 256 Kingston HyperX SSD, Toshiba 1TB HDD) for an Alienware 15 (i7-7700HQ, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB DDR4, G-Sync display)

I reckon this is a great swap deal? Plus, the Alienware smashes my £1000 budget.

Where did you get the AW15? It may have heatsink issue and surely needs repaste. Also, there's newer model with CFL-H CPU.

Also, your rig looks good except for the CPU part, I have no idea why you want to sell it.

Two reasons, I've started travelling a lot in the band I'm in, staying in hotels are boring and I want to save some space at home.
