I can't stop laughing. Yet at the same time I feel extremely sorry for people actually spending that kind of money on a game.

Is the company going under perhaps and this is their last chance at a cash grab?

It wouldn't surprise me at all if someone bought it. I have heard crazy stories about whales who spend ridiculus amount of money on ingame microtransactions.

Funny enough, lots of it is Chinese F2P games that look like clones of one another and have a life span of maybe 2 years tops.

It's actually pretty smart if you think about it. It's the same principle that makes all those Nigerian Princess spam emails so poorly written.

If they make it possible for people who already spent $1k, they are providing a sense of exclusiveness and are weeding out people who wouldn't spend that amount anyway. If someone gives them $1k it's a signal that they can try to rope them for more. Meanwhile, rational people will not be salty for seeing a $27k purchase option visible.

So this is a product marketed at the niche who play Star Citizen, the niche within this niche who would spend over $1000 on the game and then the niche within the niche within the niche who would be willing to pay the same as a car or even two cheaper cars.

Did I mention the game isn't even finished yet and required a $2500 PC to play at at high settings?

This might be a scheme, but it for sure is not a Ponzi scheme. I feel Ponzi scheme is now just thrown in if anyone thinks its a scheme to get the money and run, even though it does not meet the criteria to be a Ponzi scheme. Lets not give out false information.

Yeah, Ponzi schemes are money/investment linked. But it could still be another type of "scam".

It's less a scam, and more a "everyone is totally addicted/delusional to the cost/reward/risk/return values". Like the normal Beanie Bear (owner investment, not manufacture), tulip run (perceived value exceeding utility value or actual value), or just plain obsession.

If they deliver, then that is ok. Paying millions for a self portrait it both madly prideful and insanely priced, but has an actual end result.

If those supporting SC, actually can afford that kind of money to pay an artist to make a super cool spaceship, then by all means, it's art and a part of enjoyment. Also others will get to see/use/enjoy this (thanks digital distribution! Sad for DRM :( ). So even though 1 person is paying for a spaceship, others get to see the benefits too... though artificial scarcity makes this a problem again. This is why we cannot have nice things>:(

But if I had a few million labeled as "only for computer game artist/coding investment only!!!", then I'd be happy giving it to a team, but I'd want *Hard-Sci-Fi Sim", like KSP but real scale (would have to do some sort of FTL/frame shit to avoid long time travel if MMO, but could be fine if SP). :D

When you build the most powerful gaming machine with custom water cooling, hardline tubing, RGB, multiple high refresh rates monitors, etc...

But the game you play on it is still at least 3x more expensive than the PC itself.
