i7 8700k or 2700x

Hello

Out of the two options mentioned in the title, which would you recommend in terms of gaming (1080), streaming, graphic/ video editing? 

I wanna make a balance between these needs and choose what fits me the best.

Definitely the 8700K - It's much better for gaming, and holds it own - or beats Ryzen 7 - in productivity

i7 8700k would be the best option. Especially if you're using an Nvidia GPU, because you can just use that to stream/record and Cuda Accel is nice in Adobe as well.

2700x, will make a noticable difference in editing and streaming and is worth the little performance you lose in gaming.

It doesn't usually beat it unless whatever it is loves clock speed..

It depends more on your budget than any thing else, the i7 8700K is the superior product at a more expensive price tag, Ryzen 7 2700X is the lesser product but with also a lesser price tag... it's really that simple... both are Excellent by all means... though if you plan on 1080p 144hz I'd lean more to the i7.

Between those two, I'd personally choose the 2700x. The 8700K will be better for pure gaming, but the difference is negligible when running games at realistic settings, as your graphics card is far more likely to be the limiting factor. The 2700x will also have more headroom in terms of streaming and content creation, not to mention the platform longevity of socket am4.

Gaming only -> i7 8700k

Gaming + Streaming - i7 8700k better for streamer but worse for viewer

                                  - R7 2700X OK for streamer and great for viewer

Video editing - in Premiere Pro with the new update for iGPU use, the i7 8700k will be better but in other software it depends, most likely the R7 2700X will be better but if you need to use AVX a lot the i7 8700k may have a slight edge with an OC.

 

Graphics productivity like Blender for example -> R7 2700X is better... but it comes down that what SW you use

 Actually Ashiella you'd be surprise to know that now that the latest updates allows the i7 8700K to hardware accelerate with its iGPU it is better performing at content creation than the Ryzen alternative.

 

Video Editing and Rendering for instance the "workstation" workloads that would often be the remaining selling point of a Ryzen product are no longer true as the i7 8700K aid by its iGPU is now faster and better at these tasks:

Not to mention that Intel still has the most stable product, Ryzen often has compatibility issues, my brother knows it well he is just waiting for the 8 cores Coffee Lake to replace his current Ryzen 7 1800X:

Not really, the 8700K is usually around $320 as is the 2700x

2700x includes a stock cooler, 8700k doesn't so you need to add the cost of a decent cpu cooler for the 8700k.

Yes, if value is the issue I'd still favour saving money by getting the locked i7 8700 as I did myself instead of moving to a Ryzen 7 2700

Yes we knew the waiting would be long... but the deal managed us to retrieve pretty much all the invested money so it was better not take the risk of getting stuck to it when this better offering comes around...

 

The Ryzen 7 1800X is certainly bottlenecking the TITAN V at pretty much every thing and is not the desirable processor by any means but it is sufficing... thankfully we just set a secondary render farm to assist counting with second hand parts which also made things easier.

 

It's an old Intel Core i7 3970X Extreme on a x79 Asus Sabertooth and 2 GTX TITAN X Maxwell... it performs really well at blender/cycles.
