That should be fine.

It does not really make that much of a difference. As long as the thermal paste is not squeezed out of the sides when you mount the heatsink, you''re OK.

Dot vs spreading it has been tested to death and really won't have a difference.How much to use matters some you don't want next to nothing or have it squeezing out when you mount the cooler on it.
