John Bain, also known as TotalHalibut or Totalbiscuit has passed away this morning as confirmed by his wife, Genna Bait on Twitter. While John was a controversial person, he was widely known throughout the gaming industry and he was a pinnacle moment for consumer advocacy. 

 Earlier in the week his wife reported that there was some issues with his breathing and today, she confirmed his passing.

Man that was fast. 

In person the struggle is so long and painful, from the outside it seems to happen overnight after being given a death sentence. 

muh specs 

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it. 

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff. 

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I edited to clarify, fast since the announcement that it was back and terminal. Like little more than a month ago

My god, I follow him on twitter and had no idea - his tweets for the last few weeks talked about pain and going in for surgery, but the last tweet I read was form 5 days ago when he said his surgery succeeded. He was only 33. This sucks.

As our lifespans increase, cancer seems to become more and more of a threat to our lives.

 

I hope that by the time that I grow up, we'll have a cure for cancer. Cancer research seems to be on the verge of a breakthrough... the question just is when.

Rest in Peace. I followed him since 2013/2014, so this saddens me greatly.

 

Being a heavy smoker myself, cancer is one of the few things in this world that truly terrify me. My partner is always paranoid about my health, as am I.

 

I hope a cure will be found in this century. But hope is a fickle thing, just as humans.

Man yah my mother was in hospice. After like 2 terrible years of her barely being able to eat or swallow, painful breathing, struggling...just like one day she took a turn and was gone within a coupe of days. After all that time of knowing she was going to die and there was nothing she could do about it, nothing she could even do to live normally during that time. In her case sometime 2015 her cancer was back and had spread to her brain, but targeted radiation seemed to be working. She found out Mid janurary of 2016 that it was back and it was terminal. She died about 2 and a half months later. She was 47 I think

Rest in Peace man - I'll admit, if it wasn't for his content, I wouldn't be pursuing my current university course. I listened to him and agreed with him on nearly all topics. 
Such a shame - the world has lost a critical voice, not just on the internet, but also as a family man.

RIP John Bain, this will leave a hole that will take forever to fill.
Fuck Cancer, its easy enough to say, but we need to do something to stop this monstrosity once and for all.

Precisely, my mom didn't get diagnosed before it was already in terminal stage 4. She passed away 55 days later from colon cancer as well.

to say that he changed my view on games would be such an understatement that it would go beyond omniversal (outside a multiverse, which is outside of a universe)

Cancer is not a curable disease. It's sometimes treatable, but cancer cannot be cured like how Polio was. The nature of the disease is genetic mutation of a cell that causes rapid and excessive cell division and growth.
