Is the Lg gram a good laptop for college

Looks nice to me. My question would be are you careful with things? Not sure that would survive a fall off a bed or table.

Yeah ive had laptops in the past and have never dropped them.

Its a good time to buy laptops now that intel stop holding back and gave mainstream laptops quad cores. A question to investigate is can you upgrade the storage or ram? That laptop wont age well if you cant go to 16gb of ram and a larger ssd in the future, especially over 4 years.

The Gram is a solid laptop for students. 

 

Just don't be too hard on it as they had to compromise on parts of the build to achieve that mass.

should I get the thinnest gaming laptop I can as im going to be running Auto Cad software on it and also for upgrade-ability.

No. Do not get a thin gaming laptop unless it is known for solid thermals. 

 

Anything thin with a powerful GPU like a GTX 1070 is going to overheat very easily.

No unless you really need that extra portability (don't forget power brick too) and you know which model has good cooling

Not sure, though I would recommend something with CFL-H and dGPU

mmm for most college students this would be great for it's light weight, durability, and massive battery but if you are doing CAD I would say try to get something with a DGPU even a MX.
