backseat gaming

Techicolors

would it be considered backseat if the streamer / person asked for advice about strats beforehand?

If it's genuinely helpful, and not excessively critical or insulting, I wouldn't call it backseat gaming.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Backseat anything generally means you're not participating first hand. Since you're playing the game (I assume), it's not really an issue.

Kind of, yes. But Backseat gaming isn't inherently bad. Backseat gaming is bad when the person doing it is being obnoxious or rude or insulting (eg: saying the gamer is shit but not giving usable, constructive feedback or better strats, etc).

If the gamer has requested strats and ideas for improved gameplay, then be nice, be helpful, and it's okay.

i think i worded the OP kinda wrong. to clarify, let's say a streamer asks for advice on strats. the person doesn't follow the advice, but then the person regrets because it screwed up his chances. now some people in the chat are like "should've listened to us". is that backseat?

streamer asks

If I ask my passenger if we should stop to get drinks at Citgo or BP, and they say Citgo, but I go to BP anyway, they were never "backseat" driving (or directing, or whatever) in the first place. I asked them. They didn't insert themselves into my decision. So no. "Backseat" has the connotation of unsolicited or unwanted. This doesn't apply when you ask, because asking is literally wanting feedback.

Back at uni one of my housemates began playing civ IV. I observed him pillaging tile improvements in his own cities and I had to scream out 'What are you doing pillaging your own improvements?'.

He got mad and told me off for trying to tell him how to play.

Another time he left his computer logged into Guild Wars while he went to work, so I stole his black dye. I gave it back after, though only to avoid getting banned if he reported me.

Linus is my fetish.
