AUKEY Budget Gaming Keyboard ft. RGB | THE £40/$40 MECHANICAL KEYBOARD

Should start by saying this is my first mechanical keyboard and coming from a standard wireless (and old) Logitech keyboard.

Recently I got an Amazon voucher, and thought, why not get a shiny new keyboard for my year old at this point gaming PC.

So my budget was around £35-£40, so straight away the Corsair's, Logitech's and Razer keyboard were out of the equation.

 

So after scouring Amazon for mechanical keyboards, I finally came across two keyboards. One was the Cherry Strait (a low profile mechanical keyboard) and the AUKEY KM-G6.

Now comes the big decision, Cherry low profile (which had no rgb) or the AUKEY RGB full size keyboard.

well... that was easy AUKEY.

 

First impression of the keyboard had a good reasonable weight, coming in at 1.12kg (or 2.47lb)

The USB cable was easily long enough at 1.5 meters.

 

Then comes actually using the keyboard, and oh boy is it clicky! At first it was ear deafening but soon got used to it.

Typing feels solid, good spacing between the keys, which are double shot with a nice soft touch finish (not the kind that makes fingerprints show up instantly).

 

As for the RGB, its not fully RGB as such, being a budget option. Each row has a predefined colour (as seen above in the picture) which is unchangeable.

Comes with plenty effects that the big brand keyboards have, such as the ripple of the key when pressed.

 

One main worry that I had when buying this keyboard off Amazon was it needed to have the standard UK layout, having tried weird US keyboard which just didn't feel right, but luckily the KM-G6 does have the layout that I am familiar with.

 

Some of the disadvantages of the keyboard are as follows:

• some of the keys which have two functions per key, e.g. the angled bracket key is suck with the full stop. Due to where the LED is placed under the key it doesn't illuminate the full stop.
• Having searched for O-rings, unfortunately they do not work with this keyboard due to the "cherry mx style switch" having support brackets as shown below. Although still supports most cherry mx keycaps.

I have a similar variant of this keyboard myself . I have the 87 key version and its compact as hell. But yeah Aukey makes some decent keyboards indeed

haha nice, have you added any other key caps? just want to make sure cherry mx ones are compatible, 99% sure they are

Nah, I haven't either. But im sure they are too
