I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Why exactly did they have to hook it up to a room radiator...?

It will heat the room at the exact  same rate as using a simple PC radiator or heatsink with some fans.

What i'm actually wondering is if you put it in a normal room, can this method keep the room at a comfortable level while the rad stays both hot enough to keep it there but also cold enough so that your components don't overheat.

It's LTT were facts and phsyics don't apply. A lot of the time I question things they do but gotta get that clickbait money

Yeah this video makes absolutely no sense. If anything this radiator technique is probably worse at heating a room than a normal water cooling system. They should have just tested the effect an efficient water cooling system has on a rooms temperature.

A simple stand fan with insulation tube hooked up to all the exhausts would work much better. I actually did something similar but dumped the heat into the vents of my house and used the always on fan to circulate the heat. Wasn't a lot at only 1000W or so but better than nothing

Like using insulating or non conductive connecting pipes. Or in this case a dodgy old iron radiator. When an air cooled GPU would have done just the same.

Its no different to air cooled. The only difference is the specific heat capacity of the radiator is much higher than air. As is the large water mass involved that cause that lag in the video. It's larger heatsink. Takes longer to heat up the water.

 

Eventually 24/7 operation you still end up with an overheating room.

 

I had to recently purchase an AC system as my rig is making my large room too hot in summer.

 

In winter the pc is a nice room heater. Either way I'm spending more electricity. In addition to my rig electricity.

 

I want the best of both worlds. Was hoing Linus was going to help with that. In this video.

Good idea. A system that dumps the heat like that and dumps it outside or is 'combined cycle' recovered to drive an AC or heat exchanger to cool the house or similar would be brilliant.

Dumb video, nothing new, really.

 

I never use heating anyway. Last weekend was actually a lot more comfortable than others, nearly ditching my blanket for the heat from the Vega 64 liquid cooled.

 

So, just go get a vega 64. 

 

While it was -C outside (like -5C or lower), my room was around ~20C.

6 years after Whole Room and Linus still hasn't learned to put a fucking filter on pump outlets.  $5 G1/4 filter will save you a lot of grief from sediment and flux and shit.

 

And no idea why they bought an actual radiator for this project except to have a cool thumbnail.

Another retarded experiment from Linus the Tech Barbarian - maximum drama with zero homework done.

 

First high-tech space heater solution - buy a 4U server with some hot Xeons/Quadros and mount it in a 4U tower case. Those are guaranteed to keep any room they are placed in nice and toasty and LOUD.

 

Second and more elegant solution would have been to use a SLI setup with a pair of external MO-RA3 420 PRO units with some very low RPM fans in push. It's the kind of setup you could quite easily wall mount too or with a big enough desk flank them alongside your monitor. It's quite a sight when you have eighteen slow spinning 140mm RGB ring fans all in your face pulsing though the color spectrum.

 

My personal solution is an overclocked 5960X at 1.22 volts and four GTX980Ti cards cooled with five 80mm thick Alphacool radiators. I have 26 fans attached to these monster rads all running at a mild RPM plus four 50mm Deltas actively cooling the RAM - that's 30 fans in a single sound-insulated and dust-filtered rig (not including the 1600W PSU fan). The system is not noisy at all even at full tilt, but the room they are in (600 sq ft) gets noticeably warmer. Also, the system runs 24/7 all throughout the year. My water temps never exceed 50C even with an ambient as high as 40C during a hot summer spell.

 

So yeah, if you want to talk about a real space heater PC that can also run in the summer, I have exactly the thing.
