Time resets on every boot

Walt

Hi everyone,

I need some help with troubleshooting my grandpa's pc. Often when he boots his pc the time and date will reset. He has an at least 5-year-old pc running windows 7. This is really annoying since he first needs to adjust the time and date before he can do anything. (IE will block any website)

One time when the pc booted I saw and error messages about the CMOS. Could it be that the CMOS resets sometimes when booting? If so what could be the reason this is happening? (Apparently he sometimes shuts his pc off by cutting the power, which I told him not to do anymore ;))
Thanks!
