Audio Problems Windows 1803

Hi all,

 

I just updated to Windows 1803. Full system specs in signature.

 

My motherboard uses a realtek audio chip. Previously, I had my speakers connected into my i/o in the back of my computer and my headphones plugged into fpa. They showed up as 2 different outputs in windows sound settings. After the update it is no longer this way. I have uninstalled and reinstalled audio drivers from motherboard website and realtek audio website but doesn't work

How can I get it back to the old way?

You have to access the sound control panel a different way now

Right click the sound icon in the task bar > Open Sound Settings > Scroll down the page > click the link for "Sound Control Panel"
That will open the sound control panel in another window. If I'm understanding correctly that should give you the settings you are looking for.
From this menu you can select your headphones as the preferred audio option so when they are plugged in the sound will direct through those, but when they are unplugged it will go to your speakers.

Yeah I know. I can get to the control panel But you said

There is no setting in there that does what i want

Hmm, okay. I think I misunderstood what you were trying to do. Your headset and your speakers should show up as separate devices in that sound control panel.

What is it that you are attempting to do?

Yes. Before the update they did. But after the 1803 update they don't

I have an idea though. 

 

Currently I'm using realtek drivers. Where can I get windows 10 drivers.

This guy says he is using windows 7 drivers. Where do I get those. Although windows 10 drivers cause I'm using windows 10

Press Win+R and type in "devmgmt.msc" and hit enter - this will open the Device Manager
In Device Manager expand the sound box and you will see your sound devices listed.
Right click the device and select "Update driver" and that will allow you to download the most recent driver for that device from Microsoft.

You should be able to do this by unplugging your headset and right clicking the speakers in the sound control panel and selecting "Default device", then plugging your headset in and setting it as the default device. This will mean that windows will know that when the headset is plugged in that it should use the headset as the default device, and when its not plugged in it should use the speakers as default device.
When you have your headset plugged in the audio will be played through that. As soon as you unplug the headset it will start playing through the speakers.
However, if your headset isn't showing up in the control panel at all then you can't do that.

Check your headset manufacturers website to see if there are any drivers for your model of headset that need to be installed. The windows update may have killed them and they need to be reinstalled.

No difference. I restarted my computer and same thing. Only 1 output:

Either your headset isn't plugged in, or the system is lacking the required drivers to detect it.

Run devmgmt.msc to check if there's any warning alerts placed on any devices relating to sound (will be a little triangle with a !)
If your headset is in the list of audio devices in device manager then right click it and update its drivers.
If it's not, go to your headsets website and check the product page and downloads/support to see if there are any drivers for it. You may need to reinstall them after the windows update.

No it doesn't

What model headset/headphones is it? USB or 3.5mm jack?

I had the same problem, that my realtek onboard audio device disappeared.

 

The solution was to plug my headphones in a different port (audio jack) (next to it, actually), this is when it started recognizing my headphones as "plugged in".

I know i had this problem before, when win10/the realtek software refused to play sounds when it was plugged in the wrong port.

 

I use only headphones now, i used to also have speakers, but not anymore. The problem started when i bought the headphones.

 

There is a troubleshoot assistant in win10 that tells you "speakers on back side of computer, not plugged in", which is funny, because it worked before.

Had same problem. Got it fixed.

 

Went to Windows Settings > Apps. Uninstalled Realtek Audio driver (or whatever).

Reboot. Let Windows automatically pick the drivers.

No. Under audio inputs and outputs, there is my headphone inline mic, realtek digital output (the spdif plug), speakers (which is the fpa and back panel) and a usb mic I have

 

Under sound, video and game controllers, I have 2 NVIDIA Sounds (I have 2 monitors), realtek audio (the driver) and usb mic

Hmm. Somehow when I tried this yesterday, I rebooted my computer after uninstalling rt audio and there were no outputs available.

Today I do it, and it works perfectly like it did before.

Its not just Realtek Audio driver , Logitech 933 also stopped working. Doesn't detect my Headset. Removed Drivers , removed Software, I've tried everything. Won't work.

Plug into windows 1709 system No issues what so ever!  its bee like this since May 1st. Still haven't seen any new updates or drivers. There was a Firmware update but that didn't help. Any Idea's?
