Extremely slow write speed after SSD upgrade late 2009 MacBook

I picked up a used 2009 MacBook for £140 and put a 120GB Sandisk SSD Plus in it but am experiencing write speeds around the same if not slower than the original drive. As this is a Sata 2 interface, I was expecting about half of what this drive is capable of, which I believe I am getting on the read speeds (Around 250MB/s) but the write speeds are around 60-70MB/s. Surely it should be nearer 200MB/s as the drive lists speeds up to 400MB/s on the read speeds? Is there a setting I have to change within MacOS to take full advantage of the SSD? I've already enabled trim.

how are you measuring these speeds?

Is trim on?

I'm measuring these speeds with BlackMagic Speed Test. Trim is on. The speed has slowly increased a little bit up to about 80MB/s now. Read speeds are still at around 250MB/s.
