At what rate should I cap my FPS on 144Hz monitor

Unistash

I get that the max FPS of the monitor is 144 and that should be my cap when games can run at 144FPS on my PC.

However, for example BF4 will sometimes shoot up to 144FPS but won't be stable at this rate, so should I cap my FPS at a lower rate than 144 to max the overall game play smoother??

How do I find out what rate to cap it at?

If it's got whatever-sync, then cap it to like 85. Otherwise don't

Use an OSD that measures fps. Find out the lows and highs in game. But at any rate, I recommend keeping it at 144hz unless you got v-sync or something. You will unlikely notice any difference unless you have severe fps drops; in which case you got a larger problem to worry about

Currently have a 60Hz monitor so i cap it at 61 and it never goes below that, still need to buy the 144Hz monitor
