How do I replace my PSU fan?

Rosewill Capstone 550w ATX, Semi-Modular.  Fan is too noisy.  System TDP is easily under 250.  Thats no concern. 

 

It uses a 2 pin fan thats detachable but I only have 3 pin fans.  Do I buy a 2pin fan or just buy a 3pin to 2pin adapter?

 

Warranty is already voided.  Not an issue.  Is replacing the fan  safety hazard?

 

I need a quieter fan for PSU.  140mm.  What fan is recommended?

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

If you're not careful, then yes, you could seriously hurt yourself if you touch the wrong thing without fully discharging the unit.

I highly wouldn’t recommend doing it as it extremely dangerous. There aren’t fans specifically for the psu so you would have to buy a regular 120 mm fan and jerry rig it on. Good fans are noctua fans and corsair makes good ones too.

Just plug it into your motherboard or use a 3-pin to molex or sata adapter for it.

Ok.  Im pretty much settled on tossing the psu fan in the garbage and running a regular fan from the mobo.

you don't need an adapter. you could just you know, get a new fan, cut its wires and keep the old connector, since the third pin is just a speed sensor you don't need, you just need 12v and gnd

 

this is the easiest one you'll need scissors and tape

or if you want a more professional job, soldering iron, heat shrink and a lighter (you put the shrink before joining the cables)

If you physically can't fit it, you can cut the plastic housing on a fan to plug it in. The 3rd pin is for rpm which isn't necessary to control the fan. That being said, powering the fan from your motherboard can also work.

the pins on the psu are enclosed with a plastic bit that wont tolerate a 3pin fan

There are no suitable adapters. You can find 3pin to GPU 2pin,but PSUs different header type. I ended in switching whole PSU.
