158mm cooler

sooooo i have an i7 7700 and i use a Intel stock cooler.....Yes i know... Whatever the probelm is that turbo clocking and intel stock cooler do not match together..My cpu temp went up to 93 degrees celsius... So i went and bought the 212x cooler and my case supports 158mm coolers and the 212x is 158mm will it fit in my case????? Thanks

It may be pressed up against the side, but it should fit. If it is a glass/acrylic side panel, I'd recommend a slightly smaller one.

If you can, return it and get a Deepcool Gammaxx 400 instead. A little cheaper, performs a little better, and stands 155mm tall. Doesn't sound like much, but those 3mm will make all the difference.

Yes, it'll fit. The spec should already account for manufacturing tolerances. That being said, there might be a cheaper or better alternative available. 

What case and ram are you using? Where are you shopping / located?

I bought the 212x and some arctic paste. Will there be any preformance gain. Thanks.

Yes there will be quite a bit of gain the stock cooler sucks (I mean thermal performance the gains for speed will be any throttle loss + boost clocks), the temps should be under 80 for sure and likely in the mid to low 70s depending on ambient temp

the temps will go down and you'll get abit of performance back from the CPU not needing to throttle itself anymore to keep itself from overheating, but that's about it. at 93 degrees though i'd check if the push pins on the stock cooler were unseated, or if the fan is moving much slower and if the thermal paste is dried up.

I checked the stock cooler and it is secure to the mobo. The contact metal is aluminium so i think thats why temps went up so high. Copper is much better... and I use my PC for 6 hrs straight.

Also try undervolting. That should give a very big drop in temps. It's pretty easy using Intel XTU

But the frequency will drop if I undervolt i dont want that.

70 degrees is fine for being under load, if not slightly high.

That'd be why. If you want decent temperatures you have to invest in a better cooler.

212x is a cooler? If you have a 212x cooler then you're not using the stock cooler. Thermal paste won't make a huge amount of differnce

 It's ok but the CryOrig H7 is better. Generally they come with thermal paste, so you don't really need to buy any.

It only supports up to 158mm coolers. You can use smaller ones. The H7 is 148mm.

Since you already bought the other one though it should be fine. You can't overclock so you're not going to be making excessive heat at the CPU anyway.
