Can I Run Star Citizen?

Can I run Star Citizen? My build has a Ryzen 1600 @ 3.9GHz, 8GB of RAM, GTX 1070 Strix @ 2.1GHz and a 1tb hard drive.

I want at least 45FPS with decent graphics. The things that I'm worried about are the 8GB of ram and the hard drive.

Yes. Though I imagine you'd have to go with medium/high settings, and it'll take a metric assload of time to load.

given that the current build is leaking memory left and right you'll have a hard time with 8GB of ram and your page file on spinning rust. That and the fact that FPS in the Persistent Universe is currently network bound you might not reach you 45 FPS goal. Arena Commander and Star Marine should be fine though.

If you want to put it to the test there's a free flight going on this weekend: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/promotions/April-Free-Fly-Event

Edit: the code is GETINTOTHEVERSE

Memory leaks aside, this game relies heavily on massive and dynamic memory loads. Even when all leaks are plugged, the need to transfer gigabytes in and out of memory pretty much every few seconds will remain.

I would say the game will be unplayable with a regular HDD, even when finished. I tried playing with a buddy yesterday, who installed it on his HDD... I currently load a PU instance in about 2-3 minutes with a 1400 MB/s  m.2 SSD. He loads it in 7-8 minutes. And once he loads, the stuttering is pretty much unplayable for him with the constant loading of new data.

Get an SSD... just ANY SSD would let you play decently. But with a HDD, unfortunately, you can pretty much forget about it at this point.

I have a similar question as the OP. Game "alpha-ness" aside, what would you guys think my main bottleneck is? I seem to freeze/lock up, with no error code, whenever a lot is going on screen. This happens about every 10-15 min regardless of server. Settings are adjusted: Vsync off, Motion blur off, low graphics.

Specs:

i5-7500 3.40GHz

16GB ddr4 RAM

Evo 850 SSD

GTX 950 2GB vid card

Napper198 thank you for the response. I assume there will be some issues with the alpha-ness of SC. I am just questioning because people with better equipment, namely streamers, can play for hours with no crashes. So I am just curious which part would cause that.

go figure I'm running 1440p and I regularly see 8GB of VRAM used but rarely more. 16GB of system RAM is usually fine as long as you have chrome closed. Most of the time I encounter a freeze or crash it's a memory leak.

What ship are you flying and where do you freeze?

I'm late to the party but here are my two cents:

Waiting is always a good option with Star Citizen but the "minimum" of 45 fps which you want wont be a thing even in 3.2.

With a Ryzen 1700x, GTX1080 and 32GB of Ram I'm getting 18-35FPS no matter the resolution or settings so 45 will be unrealistic.

I've played it with 8GB before my ram upgrade and the performance difference wasn't that big.
But if you want quality gameplay wait until further into the development because you can currently get a maximum of 30-40hours of gameplay out of the game and that with poor performance.

Is it on a SSD? that can make the game much more playable. Not directly FPS but much more playable than a HHD installed game.

So maybe it actually will then. I ran it on my desktop, but have yet to try anything on this laptop really. I meant it in a hopeful way. Not sarcastic
