9th BOINC Pentathlon hosted by SETI.Germany

Some PPS-sieve timings (seconds per unit) in my pre-testing. GPUs are stock (factory OC).

191 1080 Ti

359 1070

361 980 Ti

537 RX 580

823 Vega 56

Yes, there's something wrong with that Vega time but I'll be out most of the time before start so I wont have time to diagnose. It looks like there are short GPU usage spike, then a longer idle period before repeating. I don't know if something is wrong or if I should just run multiple units in parallel to soak up the gaps.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

Some more PPS-sieve timings testing

Stock V64LC results:

1x WU = 12m

2x WU = 12m20s

4x WU = 20m

Stock V results:

1x WU = 2m05s

2x WU = 2m55s

4x WU = 5m40s

8x WU = 11m25s

Judging by GPU usage graph/watts/heat doing 4x WU simultaneously per card is pushing things at Claymore mining levels.

V64 LC with Memory Clock raised from 845MHz to 980Mhz drops the 4x WU result from 20m per WU to 17m30s. I know these particular cards can be MC pushed to 1020MHz, so 980MHz should be safe.

I rum my Vega64 at 1010mhz on the HBM. But thanks for the info as always!

It looks like the Vega isnt getting enough CPU love to me. but pushing multiple WUs and giving it a full core should probably fix it.

I just had to abort 980 GCW Sieve CPU work units because they had choked out the GPU units on Chibineko's queue.

Don't like aborting WUs, but the 1700X isn't even able to process 1000 CPU work units in the 4 day deadline window (let alone the issue of idling the GPUs).

I've got 1000 completed GPU WUs ready to transmit tonight for primegrid, Can't wait to drop them. And a few marathon WUs too.

What CPU do you have? And if you're looking to support the team we could do with more helping out on numberfields@home.

i have a Ryzen 5 2600X

if i join a different project does it still add the "points" to the team or is it al categorized per project and not in total?

You can go on any project and it will add it to the LTTs boinc teams total, but not the event we are competing in atm.

Ahh, 1700 watts combined, not individually. I have a wattmeter on the power board feeding both systems so that is what I read off.

Ah, that explains that.

About the most I ever seen one of my systems pull was when I had the 5960X @4.5GHz and two 980Tis @ 1560MHz pull over 900W total.  I just know that I had to take that system off my poor little UPS, it would trip out like crazy if I dare fire up both 980Tis.  No doubt once I get the 1950X with two Titan Xps up and going, that system will pull some serious wattage.

If this was not a rental place, I would invest in some solar panels to offset the pull.  At least then I could cash out some of my crypto and take that to invest into some solar panels (along investing some into other investments).  I mean, heck, I am in Florida which is known as the sunshine State.

My main system often pulls 1000+ watts but that's mostly due to the 4 GPUS.

VEGA 64, -300W

980ti, -295W

980, -165W

970, -150W

R7 1700, usually pulls 75W according to HW Monitor.

I have these split across two EVGA 850 GQs

Well, I did see four go up for sell a few weeks back for under 400 bucks a pop(with blocks and back plate), but I already put money down on the two Titan Xps I nabbed off a chap for 800 a pop (came with full water block and back plate too).

Though, now I see a chap on another forum selling a load of SSDs and some Intel chips.  Ugh, why the hell do all the good deals occur so close to each other. :S  Already sourcing two 950 M.2 drives off one chap for not a bad deal.  But darn...4TB SSDs that other chap has is so darn tempting.

Both of my 1700X systems are currently down.

I'm at work right now, I'll try to get them back up when I get home.

No worries, Mine is stockpiling for Primegrid so I will have some marathon WUs too. But going of the current production I think its just you and me who are working marathon.

currently got 22 marathton units ready along with 1000 Primegrid units ready to report tomorrow.

i had some trouble with installing my watercooling but i am now up and running on the NumberField project

however i noticed in task manager that Boinc has big "swings" in CPU usage

it goes up to 98% and then down to 70% and then up again

i think it has to do with the max CPU usage setting becouse if i put that on 70 then it goes up to 78% and down to 50%

is this normal for Boinc or do i need to change my settings

In compute preferences, do you have suspend when none boinc CPU use is above x% ticked?
