Yep, both TRs have RAM at 3200MHz.  I seem to have a luck with RAM.

My IMC is crappy, but the silicon is decent. So can't complain I guess.

I will try tomorrow afternoon.  Getting late here and I got work tomorrow.

I will probably nab up another USB stick to turn into a boot stick.  Having no luck with one spare stick and the rest of my sticks are used for other boot programs.

Silicon lottery as usual.  Sometimes you get good ones, and sometimes you don't.

Man, every event so far being CPU only is a PITA. Squeezed a bit and now 5 cores on the 1700X and 15 on the 1950X on Universe.

Once we get a GPU event I will stop everything else and rack up some points.

At least Ryzen and TR chips like NumberFields units.

The Xeon I have takes like 10 hrs to finish an unit.  My TR 1900X eats them out at 5 hrs an unit.

I'd guess a fair part of it is down simply to clock speed. 1900X is 3.8 base 4.0 turbo, E5-2670v3 is 2.3 base 3.1 turbo. Assuming I got the right CPUs from your sig.

1700 at 3.0 base 3.7 turbo should be kinda in between those. I'll switch mine over for comparison (2666 ram currently).

Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

I'm running stock as my previous 3.6 OC wasn't 100% stable. Note I like to keep to lower voltages for power efficiency. I know mine does 4.0 if I'm doing a benching run, but for sure isn't running 24/7 in that state.

Anyway, we can still compare times once the units go through, probably some time late afternoon/early evening.

Asteroids@Home + and Titan  = immediate computation errors in work units. No attempt to crunch. This is not unusual in BOINC projects unfortunately, the client doesn't know what to do with them and they are still obscure so there are not enough out in the wild yet to make it an issue.

And talk of obscure. Nothing like Googling for an answer to a problem and your own solutionless internet droppings get plastered down the first page. I use the "▼" here so other users also Googling for answers don't get directed to this very post in future.

Is it totally unsupported? I thought it should be generic enough that as long as the API was supported it'll be fine.

Otherwise my gut feel is to suspect hardware, and wonder if an underclock would help.

Nah - its a compat issue. Error details:

CUDA RC12!!!!!!!!!!

CUDA Device number: 0

CUDA Device: TITAN V

Compute capability: 7.0

Multiprocessors: 80 Unsupported CC detected (CC2.0 and better supported only).

Each nVidia cuda card has a compute capability number (expand the Cuda Enabled GeForce Products area) and the Titan V is the first with CC7.0, ie, the 10 series are all CC6.1 cards. Asteroids@Home doesn't realise CC7.0 exists yet and gives the "compute capability 2.0 or better supported only" message.

I'd post this on their forum but I can't post there without some unspecified number of project credit, and who knows if I will ever reach that unspecified threshhold trying to limp along on CPU work units. Catch 22.

Edit: I forgot I have an old crapbox with a 1050ti in it. Will see if I can work up enough credit to post the issue on their forums.

Yeah, the Xeon is not the fastest thing on the block, but I can't really complain much.  Nabbed it back a few years for under 200 bucks.  At least AMD with these TR chips finally brought multi-core setups for consumers at prices that don't break the bank as bad as a Xeon.

Sounds a bit like the 2683v3 ES I got to play with at low cost. Per-thread it is slow, but sooooooo many threads. It was the fastest single socket system I had, when I could find software that used that many threads. TR doesn't interest me though, FP performance sucks. Still Intel all the way if that is important.

Anyway, as the weather continues to remain cool, I'm slowly pouring more fuel into my farm.

Good to hear you are 'giving it as she's got captain'.... Personally my three Maxwell cards should give me a decent production rate even if they are older.

Yeah, TR is weak in that area.  Hopefully AMD with Zen 2 can get that area improved.

Reason I miss my 5960X, it was beast on doing certain tasks.  Sucks it kicked the bucket.

The Xeon actually for a mini server build I plan to do.  Just need to get around to doing it.  Already have ITX x99 for it with dual gigabit NICs.  I keep debating about keeping my other two X99 boards.  I have no other chips on hand to put in those.

City Run has been announced, Asteroids@home!

This can be computed with Nvidia GPUs but I believe it is on;y CUDA accelerated!

Sweet since ill be on vacation next week ill spend the rest of this week optimizing asteroids and switch all my cpu over to marathon. cpu will be 4790k @ 4.6ghz and gpus will be 670 970 and 1080ti. so that should help a bit.

Yeah, TR is weak in that area.  Hopefully AMD with Zen 2 can get that area improved.

Not holding my breath. This was a design choice they made. However, if they did implement a doubling of FP units (to match Intel), maybe AVX-512 too, then it would really be goodbye Intel. A part of their cost saving is not in offering that, and they put it in different areas. Just ones I'm not interested in.

Reason I miss my 5960X, it was beast on doing certain tasks.  Sucks it kicked the bucket.

Dare I ask how it died?

The Xeon actually for a mini server build I plan to do.  Just need to get around to doing it.  Already have ITX x99 for it with dual gigabit NICs.  I keep debating about keeping my other two X99 boards.  I have no other chips on hand to put in those.

I had the opposite problem until recently. I had an X99 mobo for the Xeon, then saw a cheap 5820k and snapped that up in the hopes of improving some graphical benchmarks. It didn't clock as well as hoped, but then I needed another X99 board if I wanted to run both. Only recently found one used from major store so that did nicely. Trouble with all these quad channel systems is I'm really hurting on DDR4 now... keep saying I should sell some older systems but it never happens. #firstworldproblems

Good to hear you are 'giving it as she's got captain'.... Personally my three Maxwell cards should give me a decent production rate even if they are older.

Doing a Win10 major update then might have another 4 cores on it tonight... what's the forecast for the rest of the week? Don't want to overshoot too much!

Did an update in W7 Ult and did a reboot (I mostly run my rigs for months between reboots) and got a solid black screen.  Bought a 2nd board, thinking the mobo went belly up.  Nope, the chip no longer wanted to boot.  Which sucked, that thing ran solid at 4.5GHz while crunching, benching, and gaming (It was a J batch chip).

I'm good on RAM as I like to have backups on parts.  I'm very glad I stocked up before the prices shot up.  The prices are nutty right now.  I would love to bump the 1950X to 64GB of RAM, but no way I'm paying the current prices.

Weather seems cold and wet in the north of England so I'm happy about that. We should be advancing up the arch on marathon soon! Maybe we will get that top 20 finish after all!
