It's intended to be faded out a bit for readability. First part is a guide, since the included Alpenfohn manual is laughably bad.

I'll include non edited glamour shots and a mini review when it's done.

Could prove to be interesting.

But really, you don't need to mess up the whole picture for readability, just fade out the area around the text.

Excellent! The idea of the fading for the text really makes sense no that I think of it and actually compare with a few pictures out there. Very smart move!

Custom Loops are too expensive for me personally, I would rather spend the money on better parts as opposed to a custom loop.

How much did that cooler cost you?

50 euro for the Alpenfohn, 38 for the Noctua fans. It's better than the Prolimatech and 25 euro cheaper ( when you include the vrm/memory heatsinks the prolimatech needs )

Caseking apparently just started selling the Peter 2 a few days ago, was a bit disappointed to see that 9 months after the peter 2 announcement, it chose to be available just after I received my Peter 1  <_< 

You can get a Corsair H50/H55 with a NZXT G10 for the same price btw, so you don't really need a fully custom loop.

man this morning was an emotional rollercoaster ride. I'm shaking when I heard the single beep confirming a successful boot. Got some horror stories to tell... Gonna do some testing now and tweak the fan speeds.

Updated the guide with some extra tips and changed some pictures to make it fool proof. Learned a lot of stuff doing this. Tonight I'll post a gallery and some testing en initial OC results. But I can say now that this is a very good option if you got the room for it in your case and don't want to or can't go for the watercooling route. Whisper quiet and temps are great. I spent 400 euro in total on my 290 + this cooling solution and I'm nearing 780 Ti performance which is 600 euro. If you were lucky enough to get an unlockable card to 290X then this will push you beyond 780 Ti performance. Go for it!

So, you can't screw on the large VRM heatsink? Getting the alpenfohn DRAM/VRAM kit and a AIO cooler and zip tie it on.

I tried this, got a Dracula (same cooler, different name) on my 290X and installation was ok. Only issue I was getting was with the VRM1 temps, I was hitting 100C + on them (whether Furmark, gaming, or mining). Fans on the bracket were 2xSP120 High Perf running at 2400RPM. I tried to use thermal tape on the huge VRM heatsink, still 100C. Ziptied VRM heatsink, same temps. Now considering adhesive but I'm not particularly fond of it since it seems to be a fairly permanent thing. Now back to reference cooler which at least keeps my VRMs at 60/70c, depending on usage. Any suggestions?

All memory/vrm heatsinks are attached with the thermal glue on my setup. The warmest the VRM1 gets is 84C when litecoin mining with 2x Noctua NF-F12 @ 1400 RPM. When gaming I generally put the Fans around 1000-1200 RPM since the strain on the VRM1 is way lower.

It is possible to remove the heatsinks after you thermal glued them on, it's just a very very massive pain in the ass and super time consuming. So yes you do need to commit to it. But it does pay off. I'm very happy the way it turned out for me.

In my setup I could maybe push those temps down even further with some more tweaking. I don't have too much time atm but next week when I move over to Finland I'll do some more experimentation and finally put out some extensive results.

1 Year later Update:

I'm still very happy with this setup. It has served me well over the past year and has done so quietly and relatively dust free.
But for future builds I'll go with a full custom water loop. The recently released dynamic super resolution feature in AMD's drivers is quite taxing and forces me to run my fans at maximum speeds.

Having said that, it's still WAY quieter than the reference cooler. If you still have the reference cooler on there then you are downright deaf crazy.
 

With Dynamic/Virtual Super Resolution foliage looks fantastic. And everything just seems crisper. (probably because higher mips are used)
Here's FC4 running at 3200x1800, VRM1 temps stay near 87°C, however, I've seen them climb to 91°C during cutscenes. :/ Framerate is anywhere from 35-50 FPS.
Battlefield 4 does run 60-80 FPS with Mantle @ 3200x1800 while only heating up to 75-80°C so it depends on the game.

On 1080p, the fans can be set to a quiet 1000-1100RPM with VRM1 temps around 72°C and 60-90 FPS in FC4.
I can only imagine what this game must be like on a R295X2 with a 4K 40-50" screen. :3
