Is it safe to place PS3 on top of my pc ?

Amal Dev

Hey Guys, I have a small table and limited place for my pc ...and also I have a PS3 Slim . I use the PS3 on my pc monitor but it is hard for setting up the PS3 on the table (place where mouse and keyboard are) each time I play it ..so today I placed the PS3 on top of my pc so that I don't have move my mouse and keyboard...then I played for about an hour and found that the top side of my pc is heated up .(my PSU is top mounted) ...is it okay or will putting the PS3 on top of the pc cause any  trouble for the pc ? Please help...

As long as you're not stopping any ventilation, then it's fine (covering a fan slot is fine if you don't need that slot). If you're blocking the PSUs intake, then that's a problem and you should flip the PSU around so it pulls air from within the case.

does the top of your PC have any holes? If there isn't any holes, than it's okay to place your PS3 on top of your computer.

If so, beneath the holes are there any fans? If there are fans, I would avoid placing your PS3 on top of your computer

If it's flat and you don't have any fans on the top then it should be fine. I've got my PS4 sitting on top of my define S currently.

Yes it's flat and don't have a top fan but my PSU is top mounted but fan facing downwards towards GPU...the PS3 is top of the psu position

No problem as long as it's not he primary intake or exhaust for your pc and the case is strong enough to hold it.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

I sit on my PC occasionally. It's fine.

LOL. I wouldn't use my HAF X as a chair but people bring this case to LANs purely because it's so big you can use it as a table.

@OP Put whatever you want on your PC as long as it can hold the weight and you're not blocking off important ventilation

That's an F in the profile pic

to answer your original question - "is it okay or will putting the PS3 on top of the pc cause any  trouble for the pc ?" - because the top of your pc has no holes, it's okay to put your PS3 on top of your PC despite the top of your pc case getting hot.

I'd say set it up so that the hot air of the PS3 is being sucked in by your PC's intake.

Yes.

Block of wood is probably worst thing you could use. It doesn't transfer any heat so PS3 will remain hot while PC will remain somewhat cool. (PSUs produce actually very little heat unless they are cheap brand. And even then its minimal.)

Yes absolutely, it's doesn't transfer heat so my pc only gets little hotter. While PS3 is getting the normal amount of temperature
