Aero 15x vs MSI GS65 vs Asus GM501

So, It seems like the ideal laptops for me have hit the market...

Aero 15X with 144hz

Asus GM501 144hz

MSI GS 65 144hz

could anyone help me choose from these three?

I am considering factors such as :

Battery Life

Response time

Color Accuracy

Screen Brightness

and so on.

If you're looking for a laptop with good battery life, avoid one with a G-Sync panel. G-Sync prevents the discrete GPU from turning off, which results in worse battery life.

Gigabyte Aero 15X has the best battery life, but the new model runs very hot. Would not recommend anymore unless you willing to do LM repaste.

From early reviews, GS65 also has good battery life (though not better than Aero 15X), however it seems like it also runs hot. Need to wait for full, detailed review.

GM501 has improved cooling (inner temps still a bit high due to thin profile), however it has poor battery life.

Display wise, all options above are about the same image quality.

So even if I get the one with no g sync, If my game can stabilize in 144hz it would have less screen tearing right? And also does turning on Gsync affect response time or input lag?

Does the LM repaste kill the warranty? Also, would performing a LM repaste be difficult to a person without experience?

Depending on your location and laptop model, even opening the laptop bottom cover can kill the warranty. If they allow you to open the cover, you still get warranty if you don't damage anything. Yes it's quite difficult to apply LM, however some retailers can help you to apply.

Damage caused by an improper application is typically not covered by limited warranty unless additional coverage is purchased that covers against user damage.

LM is tricky to apply correctly due to the risk of complete system damage. I typically only recommend that skilled people do it. If you have experience, then you may do so at your own risk but if you're not confident, some PC specialists may be able to apply for you but at a cost in some cases.

It kinda is? Idk, apparently it has it's own category called "G7". It's also about $1200 for the highest spec model which has an i7-8750H, 16GB RAM and 1060 MAX-Q 6GB. I can't guarantee the IPS panel is colour accurate or that it has a 4k panel option in the future though.

I'd avoid this one due to the hinge, it looks like it's super fragile. I'd get the Asus GM501

Looks like ONLY. Wait for reviews and we'll know. So far from what I know, the build quality of GS65 isn't that great, too much flex. GM501 also has weak points like the bottom cover due to the uplift mechanism.

True, true.

I'd personally get the Asus GM501 since the keyboard is a full sized unlike the previous version. Although the uplift mechanism seems to be a hit or a miss. I haven't heard anyone complain that it broke et

This time GM501 is quite different. You can switch between dgpu and igpu, the latter one can gives around 6 hours battery life as said on official webpage.

I'm really wondering that gs65 and gm501, whose battery life is better.

I am thinking of getting the gs65, due to good battery life, (much better that last year's model), and so many more things that make it similar to the other laptops in its category, that refreshed with the 8th gen H cpus. I may get it just because of the price being lower, and maybe the style of the laptop in general. I would use it for school, thats why I need at least ok battery life, so I don't have to lug a charger around. Does anyone know what the battery life of the GM501 is, like actual, or there isn't too much to find about because all we have seen is mini reviews, and hands on so far. As far as the hinge goes for the GS65, i think if you treat it well it shouldn't be too much of a problem, I haven't seen complaints so far. But there isn't much information in general so far, so idk I have been waiting for this refresh for soooo long. And oh boy it was well worth the wait! I think they start shipping like the 16th or something. Idk, I need battery life so the GM501 is nearly out of it, G-sync ect and just less Wh to begin with (hence the smaller chassis). Unless there is some pro to the GM501, and I am not attracted to its design any moreso than others. But I haven't done enough research yet on the GM501, so I can't give too much information about it yet, something called school and track is keeping me from that. But when I have more time I will definitely look into all of these and make a pros and cons. Part of it though is just preference, which design you like better, ect. I love the "elegancy" of the GS65, and the webcam placement ;). Typed on a 2015 hp omen in study hall.

I think he wants a 1070 max q, he has the extra money to spare. I think dell's previous laptops with 1060 max q were better. They were under 1000, I don't think to highly of this lineup.

Like you all, I'm faced with tough choices. I don't like the 45c temp of the GS65 :o or it's smallish 256GB SSD.  Same goes for the GM501, which does come with a 1TB drive 2nd drive, but ug... platter... and 5400 RPM... just ug. >:( And it has no RJ45 port. :| I like the lower weight of the GS65, but the battery life on the Aero is worth 0.2 kg! I like the cooling potential of the GM501. The 15x has a 512GB SSD out the gate, and it comes with a 16x1 RAM chip so easy expansion to 32 GB RAM. So yeah, tough choices.  To help me decide, I made an Excel spreadsheet of the specs and prices. I've attached the doc to this post in xlsx and csv format. Links to the manufacturer spec pages are in on the sheet as well. Hope it helps you decide. :)

If I had to pick, probably the GS65 after repaste.

It just looks so good and it’s a laptop that I can take along with me to work and not get funny looks while also lasting a decent while off the charger.

I like the GM501 far better than the GL503VS but that battery

GS65 has too much flex IMO, GM501 has better build quality. Cooling wise they are similar. GS65 has better battery life too but still Aero 15X is far better.

Doesn't the GL-VS and Zephyrus have similar, bad battery life?

Mediocre at best

I think you need to prioritize what is most important to you.... specifically, how much do you care about max gaming (gsync, max cooling, etc), vs how much will you actually throw it in a backpack and or use it off a/c in a meeting/classroom?

I own the original zephyrus, and i'm checking out these new ones.  when i haul the zephy to work, i always wish it were slightly smaller to flip in/out of my normal sized backpack easier, and slightly lighter w/ the brick.  i also never try to take it to meetings due to bad battery.  but it does run cool and quiet.. the new one addresses the quirks, and it seems to have gsync where the aero/gs65 might not? also maybe a normal 1070 vs max-q?  plus you can upgrade the drives.  this is probably the max gaming option, but probably still best if parked on a desk a lot of the time...

a quirk though:  if hooked to an external monitor, it needs to be open to maximize airflow... if you want to close/dock the laptop on a desk, it limits options

that said, i feel like the aero/gs65 will simply be better laptops.  commuting with it, using it off a/c for periods at school/work, on airplanes, more professional looking.. i hate both have a/c on the right side though :-/   the dealbreaker for me may end up being how hot/loud these get under load or if theres throttling... i actually like how quiet the (orig) zephyrus is

Best battery life and color accuracy would probably go to the aero 15 (get the non x variant), brightness is kind of a toss-up, response time will probably go to either the MSI or Asus (the msi would probably be the best choice here). Overall I would go with Aero for pro work, or MSI for gaming, Asus hasn't made a good laptop in years. All would require a repaste.
