Steam Link Fails to Work Well

Matrix13

Hello everyone. I've just gotten a steam link and installed it on my tv which is also by mine router, plugged in via ethernet. My pc is upstairs and on a wireless connection. Downstairs I get 60-70 mbps up and down and upstairs I get 15-20 mbps up and down. My components are a bit old; AMD fx-6300 3.5 gtz, 8gb ddr3, 250gb ssd, EVGA gtx 760. Games run 60-130 fps upstairs but it is extremely choppy downstairs on the steam link. BTW my router is the Tp-archer compared to the popular Netgear Nighthawk AC1900. Decreasing resolution hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

My PC (Big Blue)

Cpu- Amd Fx 6300

Gpu- GTX 960 4gb

Motherboard- Asus M5A97 plus

Ram- Hyper X Fury 8gb 1866

PSU- EVGA 600b

HDD- WB Blue

SSD- MX Crucial 250gb

Case- NZXT s340 Black/Blue

would a wireless reaper help to extend the connection? It will also provide ethernet access.

I don't know. It will also depend on what you have now. It could be a limit of your router. But it probably won't effect it much. You really need a wired connection for this stuff. Maybe look into powerline adapters? You want at least 50mbps Link.

Yeah, I'll try. I'm going to try to use my phone's hotspot and see if anything changes. I'm also going to try in-home streaming via my laptop and see if anything changes there. Thanks for the suggestions!

You can't stream from hotspot to your mobile home. Not only will it use alot of data but thats not how steam link works.

Also mobile networks typically arnt any faster than what you have now. Maybe bring your computer to your router temporily to test it with a wired connection.

Try to avoid wifi and even more so the 2.4ghz one. The lag becomes acceptable on the 5ghz band and nearly disapears on a wired connection
