Anyone have any ideas for starting a local Counter-Strike LAN tournament? Not too large tho.

Umm, what? What do you need to know? For just basic 8 team or even 4 team tournaments you need 10 pcs and one PC for running server and admin. The networking stuff etc. maybe enough connection to keep Steam and VAC happy. Anything else?

I can join as moral supporter. I will tell you are doing good job and cheer you up. 

If you do want to start local lan trournament there are few things you need :

1) Friends - hard to come by theese days, it will also be decisive how big your lan party is

2) Game copies for each of friend - so each of then can play

3) Pcs to play for each of friends - they need place to play dont them ?

4) Electricity - Pcs generally need it

5) Internet - might be handy, also router

6) snacks and drinks - dont expect anyone to play empty and sober

7) get some prize for person who wins - need to motivate them

8) get strippers - boys and girls want to have something to look at while they wait for machup

9) Prepare room - room must have space for all people, chairs, tables, light and pc

10) Remember that it is your tournament - you make rules, so if you someone cheated, he did, so in reality you decide before all games who will win and who not.

I may know some stuff, but generally I have gone through my life telling confusing, technical and actually useless things to people who have no technical knowledge just to get them off my back.

your best bet would be to post something in your local college. whoever wins buys 3 cases of beer for everyone to share?

It's just a small one with like friends or so, and I was thinking about making it a byoc lan
