Floatplane Player Suggestion: Automatic Quality switching.

AlTech

By default, the Floatplane Web Player sets the resolution to 360p and each time I watch an FP video, i need to manually change the resolution to 1080p.

I'd like to suggest an automatic setting which plays the highest resolution the device can reasonably play (based on internet quality and other factors) so that if a user's internet can play back 1080p video, the 1080p version is played.

I also wouldn't mind seeing bitrate as well as potentially framerate (although this is more for long term stuff) next to the resolution.

I've played around with Floatplane in F12 to show off what this might look like. I've attached a screenshot with all potential spoilers obscured.

Thanks much,

Keep up the good work.

It's supposed to remember your quality setting from last time, though it might be classed as a third party cookie (I'm not sure what the rules for saying that it's a third party cookie are). The cookie used is, I believe, video_res on cms.linustechtips.com/

Would an automatic resolution setting be difficult to include in the final player?

I don't know, I don't work on Floatplane stuff at the moment. You would need to ask the Floatplane team about that.
