Can I mod my headphones to to be just a mic

So I just ordered new headphones (not a headset) and I’ll still need a mic when I game. Is there a way I can take apart my current headset and just keep the mic in tact and remove the speakers so that I can put the mic in it’s own housing to use a desk mic?

Short answer, probably yes.

 

First thing you should do is test how well the mic works at the distance you would be using it in the final setup. If it's ok then consider how you would rehouse it.
