If you purchased a capture card like an AverMedia or El Gato you could in turn have

it record console gameplay to your PC then use Fraps to further lower the quality.

my god I was only talking about using fraps only if my pc could be used as a passthrough, and if we couldn't we already had a piece of hard chosen out.

Best free option? Just use a camera.
