What? What??!! I just retired my P4 rig, and only because I physically (accidentally) broke the VGA port off the motherboard. Otherwise I'd still be using it.

Yeah, but it is old. DDR2 came out around 2003 if I'm not mistaken lol

It's old, I suppose, if you were born in the 90s, but let's be honest, old PC parts are those from the 70s and 80s. Or 60s if you have a mainframe around.

Would a 1992 socketed 386 DX40 (and its associated motherboard-all hail lithium ion battery packs) count? Because I do also have a 286 but it kind of needs a lot of repairs (fuck soldered batteries). Don't know where I've stored either of them though, which sucks as I've got the I/O card + an OAK 1988 CGA+VGA card functioning. And as shown previously, 2x 80MB HDD for it (the Maxtor is the loudest by far, but it has the best bearings-it takes forever to spin down once turned off).

No, anything before the 80s is antique. 80 to like 99 or so would be vintage. Then after that it's just old.

Let's not forget how the faster P3's could keep pace/beat the older Atoms.

They also consumed around half the power, so SMP with 2x PIII 1000 was a far more attractive option.

Ah. didn't know that about the Coppermine issues. Yeah The old pentium series was pretty damn good for a really long time. I actually have a dual P3 system and a few singles that are going pretty nicely still

I really want to get a dual P3 system going with a pair of 1.4GHz chips and then throw my X1650 Pro in and see how it stacked up to my last PC that had the same card but a hyper-threaded P4 Northwood.

Best. Purchase. Ever. I can run the FSB at 145MHz 24/7 stable in a normal case, 150MHz in my newest case with the fans set to silent, and 155MHz with the fans blasting at max+my 850W PSU (130W on the 5V rail). It also works well with my 512MB DDR2 Geforce 6200A (the A means its got a 64bit bus...but since it has DDR2 1066 the bandwidth is far higher than that of the original 6200)

I managed to get a whole system for $40  Came with 500Mhz PIIIs which I upgraded to 1.4GHz ones, and a half gig of ram which I think has 2GBs now. Not agp slots so I currently have a TNT2 Pro in it.

Pretty much the right place/website at the right time then. Though the VIA chipset drivers really have troubles under Windows 9x so I'm having to use my Intel SE440BX-2 motherboard for it (and that board is one of the few versions that could take a Tualatin PIII with the appropriate Slotket-which I haven't found).
